Help - New Windshield Fit -Side Trim

Burning Brakes
I just got new glass for my restoration from a shop in virginia, it is factory glass that didn't make it to Porsche yet, so no huge mark up. 550 for the windshield and 350 for the rear hatch, that was with the embedded antenna, and rear defrost of course on the rear hatch, in the correct tinting and everything, so better deals are out there. Did they urethane the windshield in, vs the bead original?

All the installers use urethane now. Porsche has a "rope" style installation kit that is obsolete.
From whom did you order your glass? Most auto glass vendors seem unable to find antenna-in-glass at all and factory glass only via Porsche.

Do you have to replace the $40 trim pieces to match with the GTS weatherstripping that you are using or is it because you cannot reuse your exisitng trim due to damage perhaps when you remove them??

The PO on my former '85 shark had the windshield replaced right before I bought the car via his insurance. He said the P-dealer cracked the windshield installing the pod cover & he decided to have his insurance replace it instead of making the dealer pay for it(idiot), because he felt bad for the mechanic that screwed up doing the install! Anyways, I remember he said the windshield with the antenna in it had to come from Germany & it cost the ins. co. $1500! Even though the state of Fla requires your insurance to pay for it 100% for a windshield replacement, it still counts as an "incident" on your insurance records. Thats why I've sold two cars with slight cracks in the windshields & why my current '85 that has a small starburst crack will remain that way for a while.

update - I'm off the ledge over the gap, but did get the dealer to fix the trim piece properly and realign the wipers. That was Friday. On Sat, driving on a clear hwy, stone kicks up from a car infront (I wasn't that close either), and crack - This one may be able to be repaired. I'm glad my wife wasn't in the car with me when that happened!

Yeah, it almost never fails that I will get a rock hit within a week of getting the wiondshield replaced. If it is small, get it fixed immediately before it has a chance to spread or get contaminated.

How do you guys do that? All I get is the nasty pitting, and once in the 14+ years here I got a small spider crack that was repaired. My insurance never had to pay for a windshield on any of my cars... Do they only break if you drop the insurance?

I had a jeep once that seemed to always get hit with a stone and crack the windshield... Some cars may be jinxed that way, hope this isn't one of them. Could have something to do with the height of the car and angle of the windshield to determine propensity for these things....Who knows
