Leather Dash & Pod Installation (with pics)
Now that Baby Blue starts up ok & turn signals work, thought I'd post pics of the dash install that led to the no-start condition!
They start with pod, console & glove compartment door removed, then full dash removal. Next are comparisons of old and new dash & pod, finally a few shots of the new dash installed.
Leather work was done by 928 Leather Shop in Michigan.
Waddya think???

928 Leather Shop is run by Robert Budd - IIRC he has posted here in the past?

Don't know what to say about the glove compartment door as I've never seen an oem leather model. The console is vinyl and the sharp eye will notice a difference in padding depth at the junction.
I plan to have the console, armrest and door panel inserts redone this winter.
BTW, cost for finished dash & pod was just over $1k - core charge was $100 each.

Fantastic Upgrade at a good price. Also a good time to go through the HVAC system and make sure everything is up to snuff. (Snuff? What the hell does that mean.)

Heehee...you guessed it! Parallel kickdown override switch. I couldn't find a plain black cover & everything else was either cheap Chinese plastic junk or bright red, orange, etc.
Man, that thing is dangerous! One might easily wrap said 928 around a tree or other immovable object should one get, lets say, enthusiastic?
I also had my first experience with the dreaded t belt warning light after a couple hi-rev shifts (approx 6k). It went out & hasn't come back but my pucker factor was 9+! I ordered the tension tool 'cuz I know I'll need it, but the water pump & belt have only around 12k miles on them since replacement. Planning to pull the covers & check wiring and dampener this weekend. Never ends does it...

I expect the upgrade to leather will become the standard fix for cracked dashes, as new dashes will become unavailable - particularly in certain colors. I'm glad some vendors are now giving us options to keep our interiors nice - at reasonable cost.
The only downside: Once you convert the dash to leather, you have to do the glove box lid, the console, and the armrests as well - which is quite an investment. However, once this is done, our cars really get a nice, luxurious feel like I experienced in the full leather European 928s recently.
