If you source one please let me know.

Same as what I found... for the antenna version. I also discovered that any stereo shop can install a hidden antenna of the variety that hot-rodders use on "shaved" cars..... so you can get the $400.00 unit and the aftermarket antenna ($100.00)

I found one a while back, 365.00 installed. Keith was finding them in L.A. for a lot less.

180km/h .... that must have put a wet spot on your jocks lol .... I've had similar experiences and honestly something like that can kill you, just by your reflex. I'm glad you're okay Malcolm.

Thanks Heinrich.............perhaps a reflex leftover from my m/cycling days I actually moved my head just before impact but didn't swerve the car. Tweety exploded but the windshield did not thankfully.

some a-hole threw a rock into mine a week and a half ago (yeah - while I was driving too). The dealer was the only place I could find that sold oem glass, so they will replace, with embedded antenna, for just under $1700. Still waiting to hear what my insurance company will cover, and I have a $500 deductable. I sure hope the ins company isn't reading this thread, because I find some of the numbers quoted above to be unbelievable. I researched too, and I can't see how anything approaching some of the figures above for installed windshield can be obtained.....

Just had mine (89 S4) replaced due to rock chips. Used a top shelf body shop - they searched all over US, thought they could get it from PPG or aftermarket...no such luck. Wound up with a SIGLA imported from Germany thru Porsche. Fortunately, I carry $0 deductible glass coverage.

Just my experience.

No, my car is roof antenna.

Experience with aftermarket glass shops is all over the map. H'man has the price I paid correct. 3 times it was between $250 and $325. Twice I got Pilkington (decent glass), but the last time I got bad Chinese glass for $280 installed. Others have reported getting Sigla glass for as low as $150 installed, which is very, very hard to believe. I believe dr. bob has a lead on a shop selling Sigla for something close to that in the LA area.

The experience with antenna-in-glass is equally variable. The glass shop dispatchers usually don't have a clue what is available and will tell you all kinds of stories because they just don't know anything until they actually try to order it. Then some will have no trouble finding antenna-in-glass, while others will never be able to locate it. It seems some have far more effective supplier networks and contacts than others. Some will find decent glass, like Pilkington or even Sigla, others will try to stick you with Chinese glass, while others will totally strike out and send you to Porsche. I am not being racist when I say that you need to be very careful with Chinese glass. They are infiltrating the glass market due to very low prices, like every other market, but I haven't seen a Chinese-made windshield for a 928 that was optically acceptable. Brand name is still important with glass.

I have gotten lucky and called a local shop and found they had my windshield actually in-stock for immediate installation. Another shop took 3 weeks to determine they couldn't get the glass. Go figure.

Bill, there's nothing racist about pointing out that a lot of Chinese goods are sub-standard quality. I've also got no problem pointing out that they engage in dumping tactics.
