How about a 110 bar pump?
I am actually concerned about having TOO much pump pressure, as I have no interest in driving a 87 coupe Deville, but just more than what the normal S4 has, which is at 7-bar I believe. Something in the middle, so when I am on track, it doesn't feel like I am sawing wood.

FWIW, I went to a 13" steering wheel on my S4 and on the track I don't notice any effort in the steering. Of course I'm pumping 130 Bar on my adrenaline meter, I might not notice if my PS belt came off.

As the 'normal' pump output is 70 bar, the 100 - 110 bar range ( which Griffiths suggested) would be an appropiate upgrade.
Shimming the spring should achieve the desired result, but unless one has a test rig to measure the dead head/relief valve pressure, it would be prudent to increase in very small steps.

From memory I would say all thse changes were done in '83-84 timeframe. S4 and later rack parts have same physical dimensions.

I put the Griffith's HO pump in the 79 when I changed all the hoses. I noticed a difference at parking lot speeds. (Easier to turn the wheel for sure) About the same at highway speeds which is how I like it.

Sounds like the HO griffith's pump is the easiest solution. Do the hoses have to be changed or just switch out the pump?

Jerry,

I would guess your hoses are original at 20 years old. You probably don't HAVE to replace them, but it might be a good thing to do while your in there. (Not that difficult)

BTW, I've got a brand new in the package p. steering resv. for your model year and Need to get rid of it. It might go good with your new pump and hoses!

Chuck, let me figure out if I really want to tackle another project. Right now everything works perfectly on my 928 which is a new experience for me.

I used to live in Plano, twice actually. North of Legacy and south of Legacy.

Jerry,

I'm at Legacy and Independence. Small world.

Good luck with the project!
