Sun Roof Stuck Open
My sun roof has decided to not close. The motor seems to be working fine, but the sun roof will only move back and forth about 1/4 inch, like its wedged or off track. Anyone had any experience with this. Also I tried the manual route installing the crank with the same results.

Make sure that the Transmission screw is really TIGHT - this is the 'clutch' mechanism and can provide slippage preventing the sunroof from operating.
Also, do a good visual on the sunroof and it's alignment as well.

Dan,
Jay is right on the place to start. Hopefully the screw will fix it. If not, you may have to replace your cables like I did.
Don't know how mechanical you are, but since the roof is stuck open it may not be too bad.
If you have the manuals, the procedure for cable replacement is relatively simple. The cables themselves are ~$45 each (if one is bad, do both).
BTW- If you are feeling up to it, and don't have manuals, I can provide a synopsis.

Dan-
-Unlatch the sunroof cover
-Locate the motor/transmission (transmission has a brass colored screw)
-Tighten the screw with a standard screwdriver - good and tight!
Give it a whirl...

Dan,
Sounds like one, or both, of your cables has failed. What happened in my case is that the "blocks" at the end of the cables separated, causing things to be stuck.
Here is what I did - basically a rehash of the factory manual procedure. As always, be careful and YMMV...
The first thing to do is remove the motor from the sunroof. Unplug the cables and undo the 6 nuts holding the motor up. Don't drop the nuts, they're great fun to find....
Next to the front of the roof. There are 3 screws that hold the sliding portion of the headliner to the sunroof. You will find them looking toward the rear of the car in between the top of the sunroof and the bottom of the headliner (sandwich effect). Loosen, but you DON'T HAVE to remove them. (And I wouldn't recommend it. PITA to put back.)
CAREFULLY pull the sunroof liner out toward the front of the car. (don't scratch)
Now things may get a bit tricky. Since your roof is stuck open, you need to close it to remove it. Look off to the sides of the roof channels and try to see how the roof is jammed. (small maglite or whatever small light source you have, or you won't be able to see) Use a REALLY long screwdriver, perhaps a length of coathanger, to get the blockage out of the way. GENTLY pull the roof toward you - as it may be jammed at a funny angle you don't want to scratch the paint.
Once you get the roof closed, it gets easier. The sunroof itself is bolted to the rails by 2 bolts on each side, remove the bolts and pull roof panel out CAREFULLY. (Once again, caution with the paint.)
At this point the book is helpful, just because it has pictures, and they are worth at least a 1000 words.
Make sure to grease everything upon reassembly- blocks, cables, guides. The alignment isn't tough, just a bit more time. The books will really help with this one though. (VOL V. Body, Electrics)
Let me know if you need more info.

Dan,
Good luck and let me know how things go. Even if only one cable is shot, you should really replace both of them (~$45 ea from the usual 928 sources).
Once you get the roof out, you should be able to see how the cables route through the tubes. Also, keep in mind that the metal blocks that raise the panel to flush with the body, are not really attached to anything, so don't lose 'em...
