My original RHD tank has a crack near the outlet on the underside.

I replaced it with a mint condition early tank with only one vent connection, it cost me £20. I discovered after overheating my car that the level sensor didn't work.

I bought a tank repair kit while in the US for about $4 (two part epoxy and fibreglass), it looks mighty ugly but it works and the original tank is now back on the car.

I sold the early tank for about £20, and also bought a mint condition late tank for about £25 from a UK breaker.

The guy I sold the early tank to has since realised that he would prefer the later twin vent tank, so is probably going to sell the early tank. Let me know if you'd like his contact details.

Take it to a carbon fiber layer shop who does car hoods, and have them lay carbon fiber over the whole unit, they can use it as a base material to bond the CF to. It will look trick and cost alot less, plus should be really strong.

If our cars had come fitted with an ally tank we would have simply complained about the weight penalty.

Just a quick update, thanks to JP on this forum I have been in contact with Timp the person who had a RHD expansion tank made for his 1990 928 S4(see previous picture). The company is PWR performance products in OZ. They have the schematic drawings for the RHD expansion tank and can reproduce it if anyone else is interested. Cost is somewhere in the ($220.00AUS D= $190USD) range and Timp has told me it is a quality product. I believe this is a reasonably priced solution for RHD owners and I will let you know how it works out once I have the tank made.

Personally I would absolutely prefer the BMW unit over that. But good job on finding yet another option inexpensively!!

What pray does the BMW tank look like ? The brass part of my tank is pretty discoloured, but no actual signs of corrosion, and no leaks...yet.

I have my PWR tank! And dont worry about weight - it feels VERY light considering its metal....will post a weight later, if somebody can do the same for a plastic one?

A$242 incl shipping Bris->Mel . Talk to - Luke White [Luke@pwr.com.au], quote me as a recent sale.
Only difference I can see so far is it only has 2 mounting ears - probably missing the one you cant get at with the fender in place - bottom right mount shown on the plastic tank above. I will have to add the sight tubing and clips on the side myself.
They emailed me a pdf invoice, I sent the $, it arrived bit over a week later.

EDIT>OOPS! weighs 1lb 11oz as delivered - no pressure cap or level sensor, but with plastic caps on all orifices..
