Default Borescope and Led lamp ?

Has anyone actualy used one of these "Borescope", and if so was it worth the money?
I am hinting for Fathers Day for a borescope or and a really bright Led lamp. I need real life feedback and a model(s) recommendation.

I would spend the money on a tool that you would use on a more regualar basis. For example an air compressor and some basic air tools. A good wide hydraulic jack. Some 3ton axke tands, etc.

I use them all the time at work and they are great tool. I would buy one from an NDT supply house and pay up for a better unit but they are pricey. It won't be a tool you use too often but it has amazing benefits. I can look inside my cylinders and see how things are doing.

To be honest it should be one of those tools that is at the very end of your wish list right after a OBD diagnostic reader.

I have a 1,500 Sq Ft garage with a lift ,3 Hp compressor all the air tools. I have always thought that it is a lot cheaper to buy a tool one time then hand cash to an idiot for 2 hours to find whats not wrong. I have purchased all the Air Cond tools and have saved hundreds on doing my own repairs
So that said I need to know if a certain brand is better then another and how has it helped anyone!

Borescopes -- really high-quality units -- can easily cost upwards of $1k. I picked up a ProVision 36"x5.8mm for about $180 shipped from ebay and it has been a very useful tool. I have used it to inspect my fuel tank vent lines that are inaccessible at the top of the tank, snaked it down inside the TB cover to find my WP leak, used it to look at the backside of my instrument cluster when I was trying to figure out whether I had a charge resistor in my alternator circuit, etc. etc. Here is a link with more info, though the prices suck: http://www.racerpartswholesale.com/provision.htm

I chose the thinner model; if I need it to hold its shape/position I put it inside a piece of vinyl tubing along with a section of coathanger. It ends up being about the same 1/2" diameter as the borescope that holds its shape, but it gives me the option of using it in smaller spaces, for example snaking it down inside the door via the window track.

I don't recall what I paid but IIRC it was around $600 or so.

Anthony, that's a pretty fancy unit -- I didn't think I'd use it enough to justify that much $$$.

They have many different types and pricing. I believe pricing begins at $299 and up but you want a quality unit otherwise the definition is lost on the lesser units and it is hard to tell what you are looking at. It takes some practice to get used to them. The rigid units aren't half bad but they can limit what you can use them for.

I have one I bought off ebay refurbished for $100. I took a look inside my cylinders with it, figured out what kind of pistons I had and now I am done with it. I would be happy to pass it on to you for what I paid.
