Harvy, it is possible to rod out these radiators once or twice. If the sidetanks have never been off, you could have one side removed, rod out, & replace. Then later, if needed, do the other side. The C&R radiator is a very nice unit though -- no fragile plastic end tanks to crack!

Alan, what did you use to glue the foil stickers back on? Being unsure what adhesive to use, I (fortunately) never got around to sticking them on my Devek radiator( ), but now I think it's time....

I didn't spend a lot of time searching since I figured I could do it over if they let loose - but what I used was Permatex contact cement - thin layer well spread - since the rad is so clean on top and I didn't want to have to scrape any excess off, I masked around the exact locations for the stickers - helped with the alighnment too... so far they are looking good - I guess it has a built in heat limiter!

Thanks, Sharkskin,

If the radiator looks to be the culprit, I'll do a search to figure out how to do "rodding out" and how to remove and replace the plastic tank ends. The latter task scares me.

when removing the plastic end tank it is best to ALWAYS use a new tank and new seal since sooner or later the tanks crack or seals leak and most of the time you can only replace a tank ....once before the aluminum crimp tabs break IF you know what you are doing otherwise they break on the first attempt ! Holding the tank in place with a couple pipe vises you carefully bend back the tab just enough and only one motion after all are clear remove the tank . On assembly you clamp the tank and seal in place and then bend down the tabs to hold it in place again bending them just once. If you try to use the tabs to pull the tank into place by going around and around gradually tightening the tabs.....odds are one or more will break from metal fatigue. Behr who made the radiator NEVER intended for it to be taken apart but some of us never take never as an answer We sell the tank and seal for $95 either side.

Thanks, Jim.

Is an adhesive also required when putting the new tank end on?' If so, do you also sell that? Any other While-You're-In-There preventative maintenance items? Does it make it any easier to put new seals in AC etc.? I have a Freon leak somewhere.

It is a floating seal designed to move but still seal so no adhesive. New coolant new drain plug, seals rings for the block drains, new radiator cap ....

Just jumping in so excuse me.
You cannot rod out our radiators because of the ladder design.
BTTT.

Mark & Jim - Great product.

Thanks Roger for the testimonial ! Your check is in the mail I was thinking about you mowing the lawn... I wish that when time travel becomes a reality someone would go back and shoot that first guy who mowed his lawn......water it ,fertilize, weed it, then have to cut it all the time ???? makes no sense at all !

Good point about putting a new end tank on if one is removed, and about the tabs, Jim -- best to have an expert with the right tools do this part IMHO.

Rog, not sure what you mean by "ladder design" as relates to being unable to rod out a radiator -- I have heard of it being done online here and my AC/Radiator guy(I only use him for AC, BTW) told me he had done quite a few... He said it could be done with one end tank removed. It amounts to just shoving a wire or rod down the tubes to get the crud out...

That is true of only some 928 cores as there are several designs. The later ones have built in turbulators that make rodding out nearly impossible but early ones do not have them.

Mark,
Thanks for the clarification.
All the ones I looked at getting rodded were the turbolated/ladder design and 86 or newer.
