Crankshaft Pulley went backwards during SC install - Trouble?
I'm installing Murfs 928 SC stage 1 kit on my '88 S4 auto. During the crankshaft pulley removal my crackshaft lock slipped and I managed to move the crankshaft pulley about 30 degrees counter clockwise (as in loosening the nut on the pulley). I moved it back to where I thought it was originally, but as I had not marked it, I can't be sure. Am I in trouble when I go to start it up, or am I just being paranoid? (timing belt changed 2K miles ago and retighted to spec). I havn't finished yet so I havn't started it, or cranked it over yet.... Any comments welcome.....

Since you were only loosening the pulley and didn’t touch the timing belt. Nothing regarding the t-belt and its synchronization with the cams has moved. But to be sure, as Andrew suggested, once everything is installed, turn the engine over by hand at least 2 revolutions. Do this with the plugs out.

Thanks guys - I appreciate the info. I'll give the engine turnover a shot. I'm waiting for a couple of parts to complete the install. Should be soon.....

Simple thing to do is set the crank at tdc and (remove the cam sprocket covers) confirm that the cams are still properly timed. half hour worth of work, well worth it.

Hey, you are already into this? I'm disappointed you didn't tell me and let me come up and particiapte. Let me at least know when you think you are going to button this up. I'd like to be there for for the test run!
