Nology Plug Wires

Post Nology Plug Wires

Does anyone know if the Nology spark plug wires have a resistor built into them? I know the stock Beru wires have a 3K ohm resistor built into the spark plug connector, and I was wondering if the Nology's were the same.

Nology does not have such a resister.

The resister is included in the boots of the 928 Beru wires to cut out EMI interference. Basicly, it stops it from forming.

Low resistance wires, like in the days of old, make a good bit of radio, and electromagnetic interference. This wasn't an issue on such cars, they didn't have radios, and they didn't have computers. All 928s have at least to "brains" and most have a radio. Clearly EMI isn't realy acceptable in a 928.

Nology decided that they wanted to try and build a low resistance wire, but still not makeing the EMI interference. To stop the EMI they put a metal sheilding around the wire's core. This sheilding picks up the EMI, and grounds it out. It's very important to ground Nology wire's ground.

There is a good bit of energy that goes into the sheilding. Now, I'm not sure if thats energy robed from the spark in the plug, OR extra energy saped out of the coil, but that energy isn't robed on the OEM wires.

Personaly, I don't realy like the idea of the Nology wires, but they look cool, and when they're described they sound cool. There are several 928s running around with them to no ill effect. Least non posted on the board. I also havn't heard any major problems outside the board with other cars.

So, so, no resister.

I have Nology wires on my S4. I have no interference from the radio or such to my knowledge. There is one problem in that the wires will not fit the separators that on on the valve covers. I took mine off completly, even the small stud sticking out. I got red ones.

Another thought is that the Nology wires are fairly expensive...

I got a set of Magnecor (sp?) for a lot less with the resistor and no impact upon the performance.

Where did you guys attach the ground wires on your Nology's? I still haven't hooked these up, and had thought about attaching them to the injector mount bolts.

Okay, I took apart an old S4 plug wire. There's a 3K ohm resistor built into the spark plug connector, and also a 1K ohm resistor built into the distributor cap connector. The actual wire is just that, regular looking, multi-stranded wire, with basically no resistance to it. Since the Nology wires don't have the resistors in the spark plug connector boot, is there any real resistance to the actual wire? Would you get a close to zero resistance reading if you measured connecting the ohm meter to the connector terminal at each end? I know that the Nology wires are expensive. When I see performance plug wire sets for other V-8 engines costing maybe $50, I'm thinking there has to be a cheaper solution than paying several hundred for a set of 928 wires.

IMHO - I can not justify the price of the Nology wires for what they give in return. I'll just stick to a nice set of moderately priced plug wires and put the extra dough into something that will truly benefit the car.
