Vortech Blower and IC on manual S4 `89 Noisy!
Hi,
I am installing a Vortech kit that I bought in 2002 from Eric Munck (The SkunkMaster who stole my money...!).
I had it originally on MY GTS, but after a very expensive mishap, I decided to install it on my S4 street racer that I didn't pay that much for...!
My mechanic installed Ford racing injectors and now the whole kit is installed with the intercooler.
We fired it up but the brand new Vortech V1-T Race M unit makes allot of noise at idle. Kind of metallic sound. When we apply a bit of gas, the sound is pretty much cancelled out. Is this normal?
Please advice!
I will try to post a picture of the engine bay as it is right now.

The V-1 has straight gears. It should whine quite a bit, but not make any more noise than that. Mechanical in what way? Like a knocking or marbles sound?
The big bearings on the main shaft, per some technical gurus in the 928 SC capital, Green Bay, Wisc, are not as strong as they should be for side load, which is the belt pulling down on the pulley.
Your mishap is unfortunate with The munkster. A small contingent of people were well aware of his purposely ignorant ineptitude, and warned everyone before anything substantial happened in the 928 community, but sometimes things continue unnoticed.

Hi!
Thanks for your response.
Well it sounds like its running without lubrication at first-not pretty. When a little gas is applied it goes away. I remember that my other blower of the same type also was noisy, but not so loud at first...!
Its spanking new! What should I do?
Maybe it just needs to be broken-in?
Eric Skunk sure was a clever snake...!
I still wanna get him for all the stuff I bought but never received...
I am sure he is trying to screw someone else, somewhere right now!
I wanna post pics but mine are just above the 2mb limit. Any advice?
Thanks again for the help.
Cheers, Michael.

I'd love to hear another good Munck story.
As for the pics, you can post them elsewhere on the net( photo bucket, etc ). Then link to that pic.

Nonetheless, I do stick to it's 'suffering' from the normal noises for those units. Tim's old T-Trim made all kinds of racket at idle, and likewise all kinds of horsepower (..550+ rwhp) on the dyno too. The noises emitted sounded coincidently like this:

Hi!
Thats very good news!
This unit is not from The Skunkmaster by the way- that one is toast....!
Thanks for your advice great Pundits!
We can now focus on more pleasant problems. Like installing the Swedish equivalent of the X pipe, and having it mapped up by Mr. Fries of Gothenburg.
Is it stupid of me to drive it at all before he has mapped it up?
I am kinda keen to see what this has done to my stripped out racer...!
Cheers and vroom vroom from Sweden!

Drifting
are you re-mapping the fuel eprom? if you are then dont drive it untill this is done. otherwise you are using a rising rate fuel regulator? in which case this needs correct ajustment before it should be driven. in either case if you drive without the correct fuelling you risk detonation and engine destruction.

Be patient as drnick suggests!

Ok!
I will restrain myself then....
I drove it just a couple of km`s and when I hit the gas at 3000 rpm in 4th it built up allot of boost, but it didn't translate to the wheels...I guess it doesn't have the proper fuel pressure yet and got starved of petrol...After that I drove home carefully...!
I will leave it to the pros now!
It has Ford racing injectors and some upgraded fuel regulator installed.
Thanks for all the advice!
