PITA- removing window tint
I got a hatch glass from BrendanC yesterday for my upcoming project 928 and it was (as advertised) horrible. The person who Brendan got it from tried to seal the glass with that black 3M weatherstripping goo which sticks to everything. In addition they put some Wal-mart quality PURPLE window tint on it.
After about 3 hours of carefully peeling and scraping with several razors and some very sore fingers, I got it all off. Brendan, bet you don't recognize your own glass :P
Sorry about the ****ty pictures; sun is just going down.
Clear glass
Better shot

do you know if you were able to take it off w/o hurting the defogger veins?
I took that crappy purple tint off of a window and thought I was being careful but nope.......
That stuff really sucks to take off.

They dont typically sell Purple tint. Its all shades of grey or smoke or black or what have you. But it fades to purple. So i am sure the tint is just really old.
The weatherstrip adhesive that you mentioned sounds like a whole other PITA though and totally unnecessary, What the hell would a PO need that stuff for anyway?

Looks Great V2. I told ya! Notice I kept my clean glass. That same tint is on the quarter windows and the side windows. I hear steam works, and I did try it on another car (same purple tint, which as mentioned is just VERY old tint, and usually low quality), and it helps, but you also get very burned fingers.

It's the same goop that you use to reseal taillights. I think I heard somewhere it was very similar to asphalt. (You can see some on my shirt in pic #2)
Brendan - thanks again for the glass; You should have an easier time with the quarters because there's no defroster wires. If you can get a good edge the stuff comes up in sheets, which is what I had before crinkling in #3.

I just tested the 2 sets of defroster wires; both still work. lol.
Something odd, however...my multimeter picked up more voltage than my powersource was supposed to be putting out (powersource set at 12.5V, meter read 12.7)
Are my defrosters trying to be wonky transformers?

Naa, I think you are ok. I don't remember there being a resistor in the defog wires that you could scrape off.
Congrats, you now have a pristine hatch. Is this one w/o the 3rd brake light?
BTW, you might as well change your avatar to a 928, you have finally come to see the light.

That would be weird to see in your mirror...a bunch of little lines across your window and then this random lump restricting current.
This glass has no brake light. I'm hoping that this signifies it being an "early" hatch glass that will fit the '83. I heard that hatch frames were interchangeable between all years 78-95...does the same apply to the glass? If this doesn't work for an '83S then I'm screwed.
When I see the car next (most likely Tuesday) I will try to remember to get some pictures of it and maybe I can

They are all the same, reason for me asking............If you had the early hatch (like you have) but wanted the light. Jim M has a great conversion for it.
Since you have the Pre '86, just ignore my last post.

Randy - I see. V=IR means that a higher R means a higher V. Gotcha.
