John, definitely no chance against more serious competitors, but some of them are pretty fun to watch. Some folks dump money into the strangest vehicles to make them fast. This dragstrip even allows 4 wheel ATV's to run, as long as they wear full leathers like the bikes. One fellow with a newer model Yamaha with several mods runs the same 1/8 mile time as my GT. Kinda makes you humble to have a 4 wheeler keep pace with you up to 80 mph!!!!!!!

Personally I've had one run-in with a W-6 (???) Trans Am, and it was high speed highway stuff. I was minding my own biz cruising home early from work, and he was back about 100 yards behind and keeping pace. Then out of nowhere, he comes past me at around 100 and scared the living cr*p outa me!!!!!! I wasn't watching my mirrors like I should have been. (good jazz on the cd player) I decide that the highway is clear enough for me to see what I can do, and I went after him. Once he saw me coming, you could see a puff of exhaust as he put the hammer down. Took me the better part of 1/2 mile @WOT, but I eventually caught and passed him. He looked like he was trying to push the car forward with his body to get that last ounce of speed out of it. It sure was one wicked car. Looked good, and sounded sweet, but didn't quite have the same top end breathing capabilities, although I'm sure he could blow my doors off in a drag race anytime he wanted. One of my neighbors has one of these T/A's, and he runs consistently in the 8.75 range, with the only mod being a cat-back exhaust. Haven't run up on a C-5 or Z-06 yet and don't really plan to. I pretty much already know how they run, plus I'd prefer to keep my license, and I've already pushed my luck far too many times.

Regarding the TT Supra, they are absolutely wicked cars. Checked out a Supra owners website a buddy had steered me to, and most were in the 450 RWHP range or higher as proven with their dyno sheets. One even had 1100 HP, but was used only for shows. A friend of my son's has an '84 Supra and is trying to locate a later TT driveline to put in it. He wants a serious sleeper!!!!

Nicole,
Back to Nellingen...
Before the Blue Stars, that noisy Blackhawk unit, were forced to move up to Weisbaden-noise abatement-. There was a Saab 900 Turbo club on the Nellingen Kaserne. There were close to 20 of them on post. I, personally, thought it was a homely body style -mid 80's- but like a homely puppy they kind of grew on you. The brakes wore out FAST - like some of Volvo's models - but were dependable, fairly fast Bahn cruisers otherwise.
The AFEES Post Exchange and Saab had an arrangement where Saab picked up the tab for the Train and Ferry ride to the factory -including meals- a factory tour, import paperwork, and cat.install opon arrival back in the States. All for under $13,000. A lot of G.I.'s took the bait.
And there were few regrets.
As to being, for all intents and purposes, a lone 928 wrangler here in Midland... I have unknowingly, developed a following. Not bad for an old fart! I need to scrape up some bucks and build a 86 1/2 or thereabouts and really make a mark...
Chris, that guy with the Supra TT... His wife is the actual driver of that Cobra 'R', I was so impressed with that Stang', fit and finish is a marvel, that I bought a Mustang Magazine -.
April/May the thick issue. Those puppies are set up from the factory as production road course racers, six speed man., 425-plus-HP, Eibachs, the works.
In that issue I believe one of the 'R' guy's was frustrated because while he could dice it up in the turns he couldn't pass the Vette's, and Vipers on the straights. Enter the Vortec... he is flogging the Vipers and Vette's now. Stock the 'R's are running close to 170 top end. I can't help but believe that the 928 was one of the major targets of the Supra TT Design Crew. I tend to believe the production numbers were even less than the 928 series during, roughly, the same time frame. The Supra TT and the 928 were the only two sport tourers on my short list. Availability, and the fact that from the initial car show unveiling of the 928 I was, simply, strongly attracted to the 928.
I too am sometimes foolish when it comes to a challange, my bread and butter is my CDL so I do have to pick and choose my races...

Hi all!

Been fun reading the posts! So many boards and stuff hard to park sometimes. Just wanted to pitch in on this one too

Riceburner and ricerocket aren't offensive to me and I'm of Japanese heritage. If it's used and every other word is effing j@p or the like then that's pretty bad. But we all used to make fun of powered by rice. back as kid one of my favorite t-shirts in hawaii was by artist Nakano - a bright yellow one that said powered by Gohan! (rice) and had big cartoon of a rice cooker and kernel of rice with real slanty eyes and buckteeth! lol wish I still had it!

as for BWWWWAAAAAAHHHHH!!!!!! some of you oldies may recall it really started out with bbwwwwAAAAaaahhHHHHH! notice the torque dip at 4k because the flappy wasn't working on my blue GT. Once I got it fixed it was all about the BBBWWWWAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH my fixed flappy / no torque dip post! Even Porsche adopted that sorta' describing their 996 acceleration as Baaaaawwwwww! So I'm proud of pointing out how the 928 was first again, even 25 years after it was introduced, and used as frame of reference.

The 928 sounds nothing like a fartcan equipped riceburner

Please remind yourselves of that by mashing your throttles. regularly, past 4k. you know, to keep 'em running strong.

Finally, I wouldn't be racing too many superbikes out there. danger is just too great and many of the riders may actually be first timers with way too much bike to handle. It's a huge problem and for awhile this year *every* weekend someone I knew either died or crashed. It's tragic and whoever was in front won't matter. I wonder sometimes why I got back into bikes.

Anyways starting to ramble as I am wont to do. Glad to see everyone is still having fun out there with the best Porsche roadcar they don't build anymore. There may be newer but I still think this is the one. Amazing.

See you at Sears Point Sunday for the AMA Superbike finals if you're going!
