On the 17's, 275/35 would be a nice offering. That would keep diameter within 1%. However, 275?40 is the closest. That's about 4%. ----- I will definitely post my choice. I'm running out of time. Many folks like Kumhos but I am not so sure about them. I like the REO50 Pole Positions and the Goodyear F1 GS D3's. Film at 11. G

Ed,
I think a lot of movement to 18" wheels on new vehicles is sucking all the development dollars in that direction...
Have you considered 18/19" wheels just for the tire options? its an odd reason to buy wheels I guess... maybe buy take-offs as sets - probably the best deal in town.
I just Saw Rick Redpaths GT today (At Exotic Motorwerks) and his 19" take-offs look very very nice. To say they fill the wheel wells out would be an understatement... https://rennlist.com/forums/showpost...1&postcount=30

Alan, funny you should mention that. I was looking at prices of sets of new take-offs at Hershey. Even though prices weren't as good this year as last year, the price of a set of new (plus a few miles) Porsche wheels with Pirelli PZeros mounted was within $100-200 of the price of the tires alone on Tire Rack. Last year I saw a set of (19" I think, lobster claw) wheels with (supposedly) under 10 miles on them for $899 with $1100+ in tires on them. There were tents of new wheel sets.

Went with Goodyear GS D3's. Same size as before. Awesome looking tires with very good customer reviews and virtually equal performance compared with the likes of REO 50's and PS 02's. Certainly less money than the Michelins but a better wear rating. No film @11 because of the holiday weekend. G

I too, am staying with stock S4 rim sizes. 16 inch diameter.
I currently have SO 3's on the rear. Yokohama Intermediates up front. Looking for a matching set up front, SO 3's no longer available, local tire shops are trying to get me to buy a set of 4 new tires, of course!
Supposedly, the RE050A's are the replacement for the SO 3's. But I am also looking at the ... 960's? One of the tire shops told me the 960's are the replacement tire for the SO 3's... Which is the real deal???
What is the consensus about running 16 x 8's all the way around? How will that affect driving characteristics? Alignment? Anything else?

For those that missed it in past threads and are thinking about take-off wheels from newer Porsches, I (and others on the list) got mine from Roger Reynolds at Boardwalk Porsche in Texas, 214-576-1911. Absolute great guy to work with and VERY good prices on factory Porsche take-off wheels.

Talking about tires, what do tire wizards here think of the Toyo Proxes T1R vs the Good Year Eagle F1 GS-DR. Very similar looking tires and similar in performance. Would you give an edge to one over the other ? I am in the market for two sets, one for the 928 and one for my BMW 540 and that's not making it any easier. Appreciate your opinions.

Apparently very good marks for the goodyears especially in the rain. The people at tire rack say that in their testing the Goodyear F1's were about dead even with the PS 2's and the REO 50 pole positions. On top of that, they look more aggressive and tend to last longer. They're also about80.00 less per tire than the Michelins. Don't know too much about the Toyos, only that they weren't ranked as high. G
