Red face Sorry, Kickdown again...rebuilt transmission.

First of all I would like to apologize for constantly bringing up my transmissionproblems. I am sure You all are quite tired of it by now, maybe You more than others Steve.

As previously mentioned I have had the transmission on my '79 3 speed auto just rebuilt.
The car came back from the shop with a non working speedometer, a klonking sound, a defect park- neutral switch and a squeeling/whisteling noise from transmission when cold.

The klonking sound came from the not fastened rear shocks. I unplugged the plug in rear compartement, cut the wires and bypassed the P-N switch so I could start the car. The switch is still to be replaced.

And now... the kickdown does not work. The car shifts down alright, but the kickingdown function on this fine piece of artwork does not work at all.....kicks down fine when using the shifter though.

I know this kickdown subject probably have been beat to death on this forum, I have read through every posting with the searchword " kickdown ".
I need to ask anyway.

1. Could there be a connection with a just out of the shop rebuilt trans and no kickdown?

2. Could that annoying squeeling/whisteling noise be connected to no kickdown?

3. What is that noise anyway.. a vaccum leak?

4. Could that plug I disconnected also have anything to do with the switch under the pedal?

I just wanted to air my problems before I call the shop to express my frustration.

Sincerely,
Geir..

Geir,
I feel your pain .the kick down solenoid has it own circuit, independent of the neutral safety switch. Wire A5 in the CB feeds the kick down switch (under the gas pedal) the solenoid is on the passenger side front of the trans. with the key on, have someone activate
The switch by hand (not with the gas pedal) check for 12v at the solenoid, gray wire\ red stripe, 12v = bad solenoid or leaking, missing o-ring. No voltage, check the fuse good fuse jump the switch still no 12v. Check the wire for the solenoid it goes thru the tire well. May be it’s one of the wires you cut.

Squealing, whistling noise, almost like the noise when the transmission failed?
Noises are hard to diagnose, it could be any thing, metal-to-metal parts in the trans, plugged trans fitter. Engine belts.

Let me know if you if you need more information.

Good luck

Hello Steve.
The whisteling noise is definitely air leaking from somewhere.
If the solenoid wire is coming down the tire well, I am sure I have cut it. I'll have a look at i tomorrow.
Thank You for You reply.

Geir.

Talking

BwwaaaAAAAHHHHH

Geir should be more selective with cutters in his hand.

In my frustration I must simply have forgotten to plug and splice.

Made a record run to work this morning.

Just love that Kickdown.

Thanks again Steve for making me see the light.

Geir,
Check the modulator cap; make sure it’s secure.
You have not felt the power of a 1985 S2 EURO, 4speed auto kick down, with a shift kit.

Next time you have a problem, just send me a first class airline ticket

I'll have a look under it today.

I am actually thinking of getting something newer, s4, gts. Love those cars.

Next time I wont bother with the net, I'll just mail You that ticket.

Thanks again,

I was searching for the kickdown solenoid valve that Steve C. says in on the passenger side front of the trans. I found the wire in the spare wheel well and have measured 12 volts there when the kickdown switch is activated, but I am having problems tracing the wire to the solenoid. Can you point me a bit closer? I see the control pressure cable on the passenger side of the transmission. Is the solenoid to the rear of the front converter casing?

Gary,
You have a 4speed trans. A28. You kick down solenoid is behind the fluid tank.
If you have 12v, at the solenoid you should hear a click.
If you need more information let me know.
