Default Argghhh - TB Tension Warning - Advice?

My wife and I are about halfway through our trip back from Jacksonville with the car referenced in this thread . The trip has been uneventful thus far, but today about a half hour out of San Antonio we got a TB Tension warning. I pulled off the freeway to a gas station and shut the car down and then restarted it, and the error has not reappeared. The TB/WP was replaced in Jacksonville prior to us picking the car up.

Any advice on how to proceed given the fact that it's Sunday morning and we are about to head out into the middle of nowhere?

Drive with caution.
TB could be slightly undertensioned.
Are you coming near Dallas or heading for El Paso?

We are heading toward El Paso. I just took it for a short ride and the warning does come back on after driving for a few minutes.

Best is to check tension. If wp/tb were just replaced then it is possible it was not tensioned correct or that it has stretched a bit. Other place might be the warning wire grounded inadvertantly. I have heard a few say to tighten tensioner 1/8 turn and go. I cannot recommend this as I know personally what a broken t/b will cost. Post your location, perhaps someone close will chime in who is close and can help with correct tools. Good luck and let us know how it turns out

You need to check the TB tension before you drive any further.
Need to find someone in your area to check it.
call me and I will see if I can help in some way.

Thumbs up

zekgb... check your 'next thread', requesting Kempf tool
help. I left you a couple ph.#'s. I hope they help or that
someone has you under wing.

What Mod.yr. shark are you driving ?

G'luck.

p.s. does the wire connection to the Tension sensor look
OK ? Not cracked/broken ? Not loose ?

Did the TB warning come out of the blue or after heavy acceleration?

Obviously the warning must be checked and belt tension adjusted asap, but I think it's true that as the belt loosens it will show the warning after say a kickdown, but it's safe to drive gently and sudden throttle openings should be avoided. If the light came on on steady throttle then it must be checked out before driving.

If this advice is dangerously wrong then someone please point this out!

If I remember correctly the warning came on during mild acceleration, in 4th gear from 70-80ish. As per my other thread I have had the car towed back to San Antonio and will have it looked at first thing in the morning.
