A new owner
A few weeks ago I was the high bidder on this car:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...1753814&rd=1,1
I waited until after the auction ended to have a PPI done at Omega Motorsports in Jacksonville, fully expecting to walk away from the car when the laundry list of required repairs/bad body work/deferred maintenance items were identified. To my surprise the only additional item found was a non-functional height adjustment on the passenger seat, with one more comment "This is a REALLY good car."
I decided that I wanted to drive the car back to California rather than have it shipped, and convinced my wife to make the journey with me by promising stops in New Orleans and San Antonio on the way back. Because of the lack of maintenance history, I had Omega do the TB/WP service where Mel Ward happened to run into it on a Saturday afternoon. Mel was nice enough to write a PM complimenting me on the car and even forwarded a bunch of pictures that he took, you can see them here . Needless to say I was blown away that someone would go out of their way to contact a total stranger, let alone take the time to take and send a bunch of pictures. Rennlist (and Mel) rocks (obviously.) On a side note the previous owner was horrified that I saw the car in anything other than a super-clean state and assured me that it would be looking spotless when I picked the car up from him.
So tomorrow my wife and I fly out to Jacksonville and pick up the car on Friday morning. Hopefully we can make our way past the fires which have had I10 closed off and on for the last several days and will spend Friday night and part of Saturday in New Orleans before heading on to San Antonio, Tucson and then home to the Bay Area. Heeding advice from those who are making the trek to SITM, we will have our AAA card, tire patch kit and compressor... hopefully none of which are needed. Wish us luck, and if any of you see a Moss Green, rub strip delete 85s travelling westbound on I10 at high rates of speed over the next few days, that would be us
We are very much looking forward to joining what seems to be an awesome community of Shark owners. I'm sure I will be back with tons of questions as the inevitable gremlins start rearing their ugly heads. As I mentioned to Mel, hopefully they aren't of the Leave You Stranded in West Texas variety...
Wish us luck,
Kevin Barcellos

Congrats! $6500? Is that for the entire car?
I just paid that for service

I saw that auction and SO wanted to bid. Of course my wife was right, "I should only get one 928 per month!" lol
I think the color is great and the year is the best (OK I'm partial). Keep a journal of your drive and give us the story when you get back. Nice score!
BTW All - The PO wrote "commonly referred to as the S3" ?? That's the first time I've ever heard them (I assume 85-86's) called that. No?

Great looking car. I really like the colour. Yes, Mel is that type of guy. He is the President of our FL 928 owners club and goes above and beyond time and again.
I have an idea. Why not postpone the trip for a couple of weeks and drive home via Banner Elk, NC. This is where Sharks In The Mountains is held and you will get to meet a ton of like minded individuals. Either way, enjoy the car.

Nice car. When you get back in town lookup Sharks at the Lake (SATL). It's a gathering of sharks at Lake Tahoe on Father's Day weekend. Contact Tahoe shark (Tim & Cheryl Dey); they put on the event. The people are nice and the setting is beautiful.
Welcome aboard.

I wish I could have coordinated the trip around SITM, but alas this weekend was the only one that really worked for the next couple of months....and the alternative was having the car shipped which I really didn't want to do.
We are going to try and fit in attendance at SATL (which involves getting out of a couple of committments) but at this point it's much less than 50/50 that I'll be able to do so :-(

Welcome and congrats on a great looking car.
If you can, take a lap top with you on your trip. If you were to get in to any problems on the drive home, there will always be people that will help you along your way. All you will need to do is post a "Help me" thread.
