Default Why I bought a half shark

First I want to say that I've had the "bug" since 5 years old when memory of my dad's 71' 911T etched itself in my mind. I had no hope after that. At a young age I developed an extreme prejudice for non-german cars that still holds strong today. Finally in Oct of last year the opportunity presented itself and I snaged it. Little did I realize how smart of a choice it was. After searching and praying(lots of praying) I purchased a 93' 968. For 2 years I had searched for a 951 or a 928. The low inital price of the cars ment I didn't have to wait for a 60k per year job before I bought a Porsche. After owning it for 8 months I have realized that I got the best of both cars. I got the torquey engine and style of a 928 with the crazy handling and cheap maintenince cost of a 944. For now I work as a delivery boy at RTP with my half shark and I couldn't be happier. At the last auto-x I had a 928 owner come up and complement me on the car. This ment a lot to me because I really do look up to you guys. I really really want a 928 but obviously a pizza delivery guy can't get one. That and the 928 probably won't look that good with a sign on the roof.

I'm sorry, but around these parts that is considered sacrilege.

I'm going to have to confiscate your (gorgeous) car.

You can have my Mazda in return.

I don't have any money to tip you with, but maybe a few minutes of car-swapping will pay for your drive to SD?

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE Do not tell me you deliver Pizzas with a Pizza sign on the roof of the car. I can only think what the Vette guys think when they see you delivering Pizzas in the 968.

The sign has already fallen off twice. Once at 65mph and again at 40mph. I had to make modifications to the sign to keep it on which involved a piece of sheet metal, neomodium magnets and a towel. And the corvette owners are thinkin."A pizza delivery guy just passed me." I also love the double takes that Domino pizza drivers give me when I pull up to them at lights.

I have to admit I fell for the "baby shark" 968 the first time I saw it. If (BIG if) I ever want something newer than my '79 I might consider one.

Hey Galva, did you buy that car from a guy in Mountain View, near Middlefield & Shoreline?

No. I got it from Healdsburg. North of Calistoga. The PO was a big 928 guy when he was young living on the east coast. I think he said he had a 928 and a 928S which he instructed DE in. He sold them, moved out here to retire but missed the Porsche experiance. Called his mechanic on the EC and found the 968. He had it shipped here with the intention of auto-x but it clashed with his job of relestate. I was the first to catch his ad on craigslist.

Ah... just curious. Looks identical to one I drove last year. Nice ride to be sure, plenty of zip, but I do have to say something:

You said "I got the torquey engine and style of a 928"

OK, it's more torquey than an NA 944(S3's excluded) but have you driven a 928?

first, let me say, BEAUTIFUL car. I love 968's and I will have one one day. second, let me ask you, why can't you have a shark? how much exactly do you think they cost? I'm guessing you spent around 11-13K for that wonderful "mini shark" of yours... really decent pre S4 928 can be had for half that. now, if you don't like anything other than the later sharks, I would agree with you... a 1993 GTS is going to cost alot more than your 1993 968. but, if you just like sharks, trust me, you can own one.
