Adam,

I couldn't agree more. BUT as I said the photos I have may or may not be the same boat.

I will say IMHO the photos in the Ebay ad look like original Porsche marketing photos. I have seen those somewhere before.

Edit: Also as the owner of a few offshore boats in the past they always look better on the water than on a trailer.. Sort of like a duck out of water thing.

There's a hatch missing, so I guess it's not exactly the same boat...

I don't think 300+ horsepower will propel a 28 foot jet boat anywhere near 70 mph. Maybe if it was only 20 ft. A 26 ft Wellcraft with twin 260 hp and props doesn't do much more than 60.

Disagree, the length is not important, the weight is the issue. My pig Formula 242 (26+ overall) weighed right at 3 tons loaded and with a 330 horse 454 with Gil Marine Headers and I could hit 68 on a good day with the right prop.

Exactly, a 28 foot boat with 300 hp will not do 70. It weighs too much.

FBIII,

You are missing the point, my old Formula was (and still are today) one of the heaviest built offshore boats on the market. It was also had a deep V hull. That skinny little Porsche boat with it's lightweight "kevlar" hull and very little creature comforts probably weights a ton or more less.

Or I could be wrong and it weights more than my old Formula, but I doubt it and if it does it isn't near the boat Porsche claimed to have made.. err I mean designed.

I just can't think of any single engined 28 foot boats with a 5 liter 325 horse engine and jet drive that do 70. Maybe I'm wrong. Can anyone think of any?

After refreshing my memory with a quick photo of a Formula like I had I would say the P boat better weight MORE that 1 ton less....

Well, it may be hard to believe 70? I also heard of a car in 1986 that could do 181mph in europe right from the factory and 171mph in the salt flats. It was unheard of then but sounds like a familiar story.

.. and both designed by Porsche!

Oh just for giggles here is a 33 footer that does 65 with 12+ people on board..but alas it has 2 402hp engines running 2 jet drives. Wonder how fast it would go with 1 person and no tourist liabilty "governor" ?? It is the "Tahoe Thunder" that gives thrill rides on Lake Tahoe.

It says you should make an offer. Maybe they would accept less than the minimum bid.

Maybe we can do some kind of "rennlist timeshare" and station it at Normy's dock...

I don't see why the hull (minus engine) should weigh much over 750kgs. I used to race a 35ft sailing yacht (carbon foam carbon hull) that weighed 950kgs minus keel rig and engine, and a yacht hull has got to be a lot stronger and heavier in some places to withstand the high point loadings from the keel and rig.
So long as the pump is specc'ed correctly for high speed as opposed to acceleration or pulling skiers it shouldn't be an issue.
