I've had a few pump boats. First, the tank on the BACK of the engine(note the air cleaner location) is indeed a heat exchanger. The two risers that come up into the tank are the exhaust manifolds that must be higher at some point that the level of the outside waterline so that water doesnt backflush into the boat. The exhaust discharges out the rear of the transom, so it should never be a problem.
Next, the shape of the hull is a modest V, with a lightweight material and minimal structure. Also has a low profile, no windscreen, and a hard chine side. This might get near 70MPH on glass smooth water, with a light fuel load, and a good pilot. He has a jetovator, which helps the boat plane out better with the Berkeley A model impeller, and also helps with top speed if the jet is set properly in the hull.
The later pumps have a more linear intake shape than the early 70s style. That is usually the limiting factor in a jet boat, what ever liquid can be forced into the intake grate without cavitation or vaporization. Yes, the low pressure developed at the intake of the pump will vaporize the water with enough torque and impeller. I calculated the flow rates for some Berkeley J model pumps years ago, and at full throttle I came up with around 550GPS(gallons per second).
The photos in the ebay ad are press photos. The hull looks longer in the water because the aspect ratio of the photo has been changed. You don't need photoshop to do that, just a tiltable enlarger table.
I had a Sleekcraft 26' jet boat with 360HP and a Berkeley pump, no jetovator, and my top speed with light fuel was around 60. I guess 70 is possible. Remember, this engine doesn't have to meet any emission criteria, so I'm thinking it's been massaged a bit for more than 316HP. Just a guess, but from 5L with four cams and a good bottom end, I could see 375-400HP without too much work.

So now this thing is supposed to be F.A. Porsche designed? That's the third company that has claimed design of the Kineo that I've seen. Rinspeed claims they designed it. They have the Kineo and a few other Porsche powered boats on their site. http://rinspeed.de

The one in Germany had been found by a Porsche enthusiast in 2003 and was restored in all detail. It has now two Volvo 8.1 Liter, 500hp engines for performance and environmental reasons. The original engies are on display at the owner's company. AS you can see in the article on page 9, he tows the boat with a Cayenne.

Matt and Fredis,
Thanks for those links, very cool info. From all of this info obviously there were a "few" different models made. I am now curious as to which one is actually for sale on Ebay. I e-mailed the seller yesterday for more info etc and haven't heard back. As I suspected the photos in the Ebay auction are marketing photos since they are the same as the ones on those links.
FBIII,
FYI, I was baseing my speed estimates on the boat that I pasted photos of, after seeing this new info obviously that one is not one of the 28-29 footers. BUT, if I had a $550,000 budget (quoted retail of boat on Ebay) I bet you I come up with a 28 footer that could do 70 with a stock S4 Engined Jet drive.. of course it might take a while to get on plane and the rest of the day to get to 70 :-)
Hope to see a bunch of you at the Frenzy, the "boss" just told me to get off the computer and start packing :-(

I'd like to see a good picture of the front of the hull on the P-boat. Looking at most of the pictures it looks very soft and rounded, something like a bathtub. Maybe they were designing the reincarnation of the 356. Dave I think the hull on your Formula looks faster than the Porsches and the picture from Lake Tahoe is of a cat not a single hull, kind of an unfair comparison.

I think the 928 engine is a terrible choice for a boat engine. Too much aluminum and too many moving parts. Gas engines in general kind of suck anyways - there are tons of diesels that make 400-500 hp and are far more robust.
