Porsche 928 engine in a vw Golf
Does anyone have info/articles on the vw Golf(s) that were fitted with a 32v 928 engine? There should be about 8 of them (not sure of this number) out there, and were built by a reputable tuner. Any info would be appreciated.

It was built on brand new Rabbits in 1980's (ofcourse using brand new 928 as parts cars). The cars were dismantled and were made 8? inches wider to accomodate the 16V 928 engine. It had unique front and rear windshield as well as modified 928 door panels, rims, shocks, dashboard, seats, etc. but retaining normal VW headlights and tail lights.
The price for these cars were never disclosed but it assumes to be in the six digit figures. Only 8? were built and it was either Porsche or VW that discontinued the production from the tuner, Norstaldt???.
It might have been Porsche that stopped it because I think the VW was quicker than the 928.

here's one with the 928 engine...but no details. Sbarro built this one too, but I know that someone else produced them too

The Nordstadt Golfs were actually based on a comlete 928 platform. Floor pan, all suspension, and drive train came from new 928 models. I believe I still have a detailed article from a German magazine somewhere. If I find it, I'll give you more detail.

This news would certainly -help-lift the burden of shame from my shoulders.
I posted about a year ago about a wretched Golf that would either force me to flog my 16v,inline 4
Suzuki 750 E in attempt to keep up, or crowd my butt at speed thru the curves from around the light near Echterdingen all the way past Groetzingen to the lake - Nekar-Tailfingen- outside of Stuttgart, FRG.
He was a driver! This occured between mid 1983 and late 1985. Many afternoon cruises on lovely two-lane roads were altered into peg scraping, no holds barred, OH YEAH, road races.

Excellence #98 (December 2000) I don't have a scanner or anything, but if you have any specific questions I can look them up for you. Here are a few details. It had an interior close to the 928 (it says there was little unaltered) and weighed very close to the 928. All the photos in the magazine show the car with Phone Dials.
0-60: 7.5 seconds
0-100: 19.1 seconds
Top Speed: 145 mph
The cost was probably very high (It states "If you had to ask, you couldn't afford it"). The same builder also removed the rear seats of Beetles and stuffed Carrera RS engines in the back. It was also 8.5 inches wider and 8.5 inches longer than a Golf

Enzo,
thanks for the info. I was hoping it was an uncompromised Golf with a shoehorned 928 engine in there, with some of the subsystems relocated. I suppose it turned out more like a 928 with a vw Golf replica kit !

Nordstadt Golf comes up every now and then. AFAIK total production was 9 or 10 of them. Most were 4.5L but at least one was 300hp 4.7L Euro S with 3sp automatic. There was some difficulties in registering them in Germany as they weren't done by certified manufacturer with crash tests etc. Not sure how many still exists but at least one or two have survived. Use Nordstadt and Artz search words to find more from archives.
