That's really two questions so here are the answers. Yes you can stay in Truckee if you wish, a couple of folks own 2nd homes and have done that in the past. All we ask of you is to be on time for the events and drives. The hotel is where all of the events are held and a convenience for most out of town guests.
2nd question: Can you just show up? You will still need to sign up for the banquet and send in your money. I need to have a food and beverage count. So I guess the answer is yes you can show up, if you have already paid for the banquet.

Does that help?

Are you coming by yourself or bringing a guest? If you are undecided don't worry about it. What is your first name, it's for my records.
Hello, my name is Eric, and i'm a 928 addict.

(all chime in...) Hi, Eric!!

Sorry, I digress. As of now, it will be my wife Natalie and myself. That may change however. My daughter Talia (4) may be coming, but I hope grandma and grandpa will watch her. Natalie may or may not be coming, as she just doesn't "get" this whole 928 thing. I did send a check for two for the banquet, so that is covered.

Eric,
I really think your wife would enjoy this function. There is plenty to do even if she does not want to go on the drives. The drive is more of a scenic tour with friends. I would say that we get more wives, spouses, SO's than any other 928 event by far.
Looking forward to meeting you.

Oh yea.

Hi Eric

Thanks Tim. Looking forward to meeting you as well. She will be there, if anything to keep tabs on me. We'll just have to drown out the side comments on draperies and soap operas ( he he ). I just can't wait for this!!!

Really, that's odd. I have been getting checks everyday. Sorry about that and please do send it back. I've got you down on the list so don't worry. I'll talk to the mailman on Tuesday.

Tim...

Done ! (Back) in the mail.

The problem was, what we at Boeing, call 'cockpit trouble'.
Or, in current idiom, my bad.

Thnx.

G'luck

They say, and I believe, that every time something goes wrong and a door closes it opens another door of opportunity. In our case the Tahoe Biltmore is not honoring our agreed upon arrangements for Sharks at the Lake . So, we have a new door open for Sharks at the Lake 2007. Cheryl and I are so excited to announce that this year’s event will move across the street to the Cal-Neva Resort Spa & Casino. This is the famous Frank Sinatra and Rat Pack hangout, even Marilyn Monroe & JFK spent a lot of time here. Go on their web site and check them out. www.calnevaresort.com.This place is gorgeous and they are being extremely accommodating given the short notice of moving the event. This hotel puts the Biltmore to shame. Everything about our event will be the same as planned except the location. This is going to be a blowout.

The Friday Patio Reception (it will far exceed the balcony party) will be fully catered this year with a hosted bar on the covered patio, heat lamps, the works. Cheryl & I are very happy that we will get to relax and enjoy the party along with you this year. If you don't get here early on Friday you are going to miss one hell of a party. The party will start about 4pm with Hors d'oeurves from 6 to 8pm, party till ??? Take a half day or a full day off and get here by 4pm. The Cal Neva will also give us private parking and full wash facilities, no more chasing folks out of our parking spots.

Our banquet room overlooks the lake and the menu and price are essentially the same. The Rib Eye is now a New York, the salmon is still salmon and the Shrimp pasta is now Shrimp and Scallop pasta. The desert is raspberry white chocolate cheesecake instead of chocolate cake. Our video poker tournament is now a, Oh wait I’m not going to tell you yet. I know some of you will start practicing if I tell you what we are doing.

We took a tour of the hotel rooms and they are simply wonderful. The best venue yet for our event. Every room has a lake view. The standard rooms are on the 1st and 2nd floors and the rate is $99 I know this is more than the Biltmore so our sponsors will subsidize the standard room rate this year by $20 per night to try and keep it comparable to the promised Biltmore rate. That brings the rate to $79 per night plus tax. This rate is a steal. The next level of room is on floors 3 through 6 and the rooms have a much better view of the lake and better linens, towels, pillows, etc. We got them for $119 per night. That price is comparable to the rate for a suite across the street, but a far nicer room. Those of you who booked suites over at the Biltmore get this room. If you are feeling like treating your wife (or spouse) really nice step up to the top. Floors 7 through 9 have superb views of Lake Tahoe and really high thread counts on all of the linens, towels etc. Live large at $139 per night. There are also a limited number of Suites with separate living rooms and two full baths that have full 180 degree views of the lake. If you are interested in one of these contact me directly. Don’t forget this hotel has a gym, hot tub and full spa facilities. How about a nice massage for your partner that let you come to our event. Call the Cal Neva Resort Spa & Casino at 800 Cal-Neva or 775 832-4000 to make your reservations. Tell them it's for Sharks at the Lake.

We apologize for the change and the slightly increased room rates but circumstances out of our control required this action. We really hope we don’t lose anyone. It was either move the event or cancel it. We enjoy doing this, so we decided to man up and move the event to the nicest casino on the North Shore. Each room represents at least a $60 reduction from regular book rates. If you remember these are about the same rates we paid last year for the Biltmore rooms and the standard room at the Cal Neva is nicer than the nicest suite at the Biltmore. The Cal Neva is working on a little something to give us to assist with your breakfast. It won’t be free, but it will be something.

Everyone that has made room reservations needs to call the Biltmore and CANCEL YOUR ROOM. We will not be staying there. We will not be gambling there and we will not be eating there. Call them at 800 245-8667 now and cancel. Do to the change I will refund anyone’s banquet check if the new standard room rate does not fit into your budget.

Tim & Cheryl

Tim:

This is good news, although I'm sure you were tearing your hair out with the Biltmore before you got the even nicer alternative arrangements lined up. Thanks for all the hard work.

My wife announced something that may conflict with that weekend. Argh! I need to straighten this out pronto, as I absolutely want to be there again this year, but that is why I have not sent my money in just yet.

well, that works for me guess I won't have to worry about getting lost between the two places or running dry on my drink fwiw, the cal does seem to have more upscale cotteges, etc... already got my reservation too, guess that makes me 1st to book a room this year!! won't have to carry all my video poker loot as far either...hehehe

is the banquet price the same??

We are keeping the banquet price the same (as previously posted) for this year.
