K&N oil filter

Yes there is. When you buy a K&N you might also consider to buy a new MAF in no time.
Replace with a new paper unit. The oil from the K&N fries your MAF. The promised power increase is ZERO.

It was the 1st thing people noticed when I bought my car, I have one if you would like to purchase it.

If you mean engine oil filter, just get a Mahle and get the right size socket for it. There are specific requirements that not all aftermarket filters meet, IIRC. Not sure of the details offhand, but a search ought to turn something up. Be sure to search just the 928 forum.

a K&N oil filter is the last brand i would buy for the 928
I am pretty sure they wont even offer one. They sell those for honds and crap.
Again, get Mahle or porsche filters. And as also previously mentioned, stay away from their air filter at all costs. You wont gain any power and at worst you will ruin your maf which is right below it.
Good luck

Here we go again!
Yep, he said OIL filter.
And yes if you have a hot wire you will -consensus- have problems.
If you have an AFM you will have ZERO problems, assuming you don't over oil the new or cleaned filter.
I've had mine for years and don't even get an oil film, residue or static dust coat beyond the filter. Even after 130 + mph runs.
You will NOT have Bug parts leaves, ditrius of any kind past the K&N.
Wll you have improved mileage? Probably not.
Wll you have 15 new horsepower? Nope.
You will have a filter that lasts indefinitly provided you service it properly.
You will note that no one who owns a K&N and badmouths them will give them away...Hmmmm...
Wonder why they hang onto them.
If you go to K&N test sites the good and the bad run about 50/50.
And frankly, some of the test media -dust/particulate size where the K&N does not fare well will litterally choke the paper elements.
who would drive in a talcum powder environment anyhow?
My observation, 2 cents -validated thru use in west Texas- Blow sand capital of Texas.

I have a KN air filter. it dynoed 5hp more than the paper filter.
I am careful to oil only one side of the the filter, and ever so lightly.
keep in mind, ive conducted tests that show that a good portion of the air flow under WOT comes through the leaks in the air box, around the filter (more so if you use the stock paper restrictive air fliter) . one of the reasons some of the 928 listers have not got gains with the KN, is that the air box leaks so much that there is not a big difference in pressure drop accross it. this just means that you get the same air flow, but some of the air flow is not filtered, and thats not good. trust me on this one, ive put a sunx sensor on both sides of the filter and have the measurements. near .5"Hg difference by sealing vs stock (worn) straps and un-sealed. personally, my air box is vented and sealed as to negate the vacuum of the sealed air box and even the restriction of the better breathing KN filter.
yes, the stock air filter will give better gas mileage over all, ONLY because you have slightly less hp potential. However, if you never go WOT, you can have diapers stuck in your air box, and you will get the same gas mileage. air fitlers dont give better gas mileage. I had this debate with the engineers at SEMA, several joined in the discussion and in the end, they all were smiling and agreeing that I was correct. TOTALLY false and misleading marketing to say that a clean air filter can help gas mileage. (ask me why and i can proove this too, except on a carburated engine)
I remember the comparisons of the KN oil filter and the others in the auto stores. KN filiters was one of the cheapest made filters around.
go with stock porsche OEM stuff , like Mahle . that engine is just worth too much to have a filter failure.
Ive used the renewable KN filters with my AFM racer/ and previous street car and the holbert car for a combined mileage of near 200,000miles. no problem with MAF or any kind of engine wear, especially after taking the 170,000mile engine apart

... Or just use the $4 one they sell at Pep Boys that fits the end of the Mahle/Porsche filters quite nicely. Or get the common strap type for a few dollars more if you want a one-piece and the leverage. I usually grab the one that's easiest to clean.
As much as I love to have all the neat and specialized tools for every job, oil changes done maybe once a year don't quite deserve a $37 tool when there's a $4 version that does the same thing. Maybe if I had a display case to show them off it would be cool, but mine lives in the same drawer that the Ford/Toyota/Lotus/Ferrari filter wrenches live. Don't want jealousy or infighting in the tool drawers!

And they're easy to clean up.
And as mentioned, cheap.
