I've got my 928 convertible semi stripped at this point. I dream of the day I can re-build it. What a fun project it is going to be! It's will be as light in weight as I can make it. Got BIG plans for that baby! Just a dream at this point...

I'm not sure of much but one thing for sure I can tell you it can happen to anyone. I rebuilt that car over hundreds of hours, and it was very unfortunate to see all my hard work go to waste so soon after. I would not wish it to anyone...and certainly hope you get to enjoy the rebuilding project and driving of your convertible for many years to come.

Tarek, probably a sore subject, but what was the fate of the car. Are you fixing it? Actually this was all part of my evil plot to have the nicest 928 cab on the planet, so I need to know if further action is needed. Insert manicial laughter.
Don't mind Keith, seems like he has been kinda grumpy (at least here) ever since moving to the grey rainy place, from the warm sunny place. Understandable. Something like 60% of people who move from SoCal to Oregon move back within a year. Gah!

Geez Carl..you playin' that card too? This place hardly has weather as the "myth" would have you believe. Maybe folks should look at the other 80% of my posts...not that I would care anyway. However, this is the PERFECT place for a convertible. You can actually enjoy it up here and not sweat, fry and have to blast the airconditioning while the top is down.
Huh...Did I miss something? I was just making mention of it to Randy since it was his car and I remember seeing it and knew that he had put a fair amount of work into that car. All I know is what I had read and personally heard. As they would say, don't shoot me, I'm just the piano player. There are guys that actually know you and were there that you should be addressing.
"That cowboy would be me. I will not defend my driving or the circumstances surrounding the accident, but will gladly accept driving lessons from you on the day we meet."

Hi Keith
Actually, I'm from there. Hence the vitrol. Never going back, etc. Keep in mind I have decided that L.A. is too cold for me and so I am moving to Honolulu in August. The big question in my mind at the moment is whether or not I should hold off on shipping the cab until after October. If I get paint and a fresh top on it this summer I might hold off to show it off.

Rich, I like the end caps and skirts you have going on there. Do you know where they are from? I have an AIR rear bumper and stock early front bumper on mine. The AIR rear has a wet diaper look I don't like so I'm gonna do something, but not sure what.
Zaevor, they don't drive or sound much like a miata.

Sorry, I don't think it looks like a Miata at all. The original Miata was a "happy/cutesy" car, that happened to handle extremely well. The 928 in cabrio form does not have that "happy/cutesy" look, at all. It looks sleeker and more elegant. I do think some of the compelling profile of the 928 is lost in this conversion, as it is in most cabrio variants on hatchback cars. It's just the price you pay.

Thanks fellas - I get the Miata comments. Previous owner fitted those front blinkers taken directly from a Mazda Mx5. Guess they fitted the Strosek front PU. I will be modifying them.
Karl, the side skirts and rear valance are from American International.

The conversion was done in the US in late '80s - unfortunately I don't have any records on who did it?
My bodyshop here in the UK has done a lot of work on her last 18months. 35 years old and not a hint of any corrosion when stripped.
Cheers.

I kind of like them, and in a contrary view to Karl's prefer the slightly elevated rear deck to break-up having a completely straight side profile from the front of the window all the way to the back, but of course, I'm partial. Built on a '79 K-Jet platform with Jacquemond body bits & updated lights, it will be at SITMs this year for anyone who wants to see it live.
