More problems with car...(intermittent no-start - RV)
A while back I had some problems starting my car. I finally figured out that the little red light in the door on the edge was staying on all the time. So, just so I could drive my car I removed the bulb and the car has been working great ever since...for about a month and a half.
Well, today I came out to drive my car home and noticed my door was unlocked. I knew I locked it this morning. Then, I attempted to start it...no go. I turned the key and it sounded like it was going to turn over...but it never did. I tried it three times with no luck. So, I went and called a buddy to come jump my car...and when I came back from calling him I decided to give it one more shot. It finally started. I made it home and locked the door...but right after I locked it, it unlocked immediately. Another thing I noticed, when I removed the key from the ignition, the key was really hot.
So, any ideas?
Thanks

Something is shorting out, with current running through the ign switch.....start pulling fuses one by one until the drain stops - meter on the battery earth lead set on amps - careful with range setting, most DVM have a different setting for >200ma. Or the ign switch may be worn to the point its a source of high resistance, generating heat.

Possibly a problem with the anti-theft system.
Check the door lock fuses. They are two in-line fuses (not on the fuse board) located in the passenger footwell area.
Also, check/replace the fuel pump relay and the fuel pump fuse.

I'm thinking that might be the problem. While I was checking some things on my car, I popped the hood and the alarm went off...while the door was open and the key was in the ignition. And, changing the fuses will fix the problem?
Thanks

Sorry, I just saw year in picture too.
It is possible to disable the alarm in early cars. They work by disabling the fuel pump and turning on the horn if certain pins switches are grounded such as doors or hatch. The early alarms are so simple I am doubtful that it is shorting through the ignition switch and activating the locks. The locks may be misbehaving primarily and simulating a breakin attempt and stopping the fuel pump (but not honking the horn?)
