Default Opinion - Naked, flat or raised? (rear bumper lettering)

I just peeled the fading and curled letters off the rear bumper. Now I am undecided what to do.

1. The bumper looks very smooth with no letters. The indent is subtle and smooth looking.

2. There are kits on eBay to replace the letters. The car is gold so I guess the best color is black.

3. Jaeger Engineering makes some nice raised letters. These look easy to apply and really stand out but are expensive.

Decisions, decisions. Any one have strong feeling about the lettering. I removed the 928S also which was below the Porsche lettering. I am planning on only replacing the Porsche lettering.

All feed back appreciated

My '86.5 Weissgold car had darkgrey flat lettering. Looked sweet with the similar window tint.

My '87 Guard's Red car is naked. Seems right on that base color.

You can do your own trim with vinyl adhesive bought from Papilio.com. They sell a vinyl-adhesive for inkjet printers, and a UV protectant spray. High quality. I have used it for black trim on other cars where the trim paint was too detailed to try painting and it stays adhered and doesn't fade after many years.

You'd have to get the dimensions of your lettering for yourself, but you can experiment with plain paper until you get it right, and you can do subtle things with the colors that pre-cut kits won't let you.

I sell a lot of the Jager lettering, and my customers seem to love it.

Last year, Jager improved the fit of the PORSCHE letters for the 78-86 models, and now they fit perfectly. The letters for the 78-86 are larger, and more rounded than the ones for the 87-95.

I think it depends on the car. My old Chiffon White 82 had some dark stickers which looked really nice. I think if it had been naked it would have looked funny. My current Guards Red 91 is naked and looks great IMHO.

Do what you want you think looks good to you.

And Nicole is the best source for any of these types of items should you go that route - I am a very satisfied customer!

Naked for sure. And yes, I'm talkin' about cars! The reason being, most people already wonder, "what is that sweet lookin' ride, anyway?" Keep 'em guessin'!

Default Excellent timing

The timing of this thread could not be more perfect.

Kevin is in the middle of painting his automatic , and when he's done with his he will be moving on to mine, so we are currently facing the same question x2. I've been looking at the options available on Nicole's website. It's kind of hard to see on the screen, but the "raised" Porsche lettering appears to fill in the indentation of the letters and even stick out a little. Can anyone who has gotten these tell me if that is so?

Also, I don't see any decals for the 928S part, just those little block letters, which isn't the look we want. What do people do about that?

Thanks all!

I've got to replace mine ('85). Those raised silver letters are looking good. As soon as I'm done buying the stuff for my current repair...

How hard is it to cleanly remove the older stickers?

Personally, I would leave it clean,,,...but support all our little 928 vendors any way you can...It really is nice to have so many options available for our 928's....it's a great 928 community with the likes of Jager, Nicole etc..all willing to create and market to a very small market...

What do you guys think about the 928S2 and 928S3 stickers? Is that like a 4cyl mustang putting a 5.0 or GT badge on the side, or an M on a BMW that isnt?

Both my 81 and 84 have the black PORSCHE lettering on the back.
Comments have all been positive.

Do you have a source for 928S2 stickers? That would be even better for us than just 928S. Kevin was even hoping he could put 928SC on his...but that may be stretching wishes and dreams just a little bit.

The letters will stick out a little from the indented "PORSCHE" in the bumper cover. I just put mine on my 87 and really like the look.

So they are not flat, huh? Is this not different from what the stock decals were? I could swear that our original letters are just flat in the bottom of the indentation...or maybe there is something wrong with ours?

Here's a link to my "Post Your ***" pic. Tell me.
Back end

Is everyone happy with this new raised look?

Below is a shot of Kevin's rear, post-paint job. Does this color lend itself to the "naked" look?
