Here's an honest look at what the raised lettering looks like on an '84. Piano black on top of Zinmetallic. The lettering on the back of pre-87 cars is a bit larger.
I'm quite happy with how this looks - it picks up the black in the bumper pads and spoiler.
BTW, I've always thought that OB's were anything 16 valve.

Hi Killav, thank you very much for your opinion. Anyone else care to chime in?
I found a picture this morning of the car's lettering prior to the paint job. Well, actually taken at the time of purchase last July. Who likes it better with the dark grey metallic lettering? (See below. Wish I could put the pic right here where I'm talking about it. How do some of you manage to put your pics in the middle of your discussion like that? I can't seem to figure it out...)
84-928s-Chicagoland, that does look sharp. Again hard to see depth perception on a computer screen, but are those the Jaeger letters, and are they sticking out of the recess a little bit?
The paint job is almost done. He should be finished with the actual laying on of paint by the end of today or tomorrow. It does take a little time when working in a tiny barely-one-car garage. He has to do one side at a time and move the car to the farthest position possible on each side of the garage to reach it. All while keeping the door mostly closed and sheets hanging down to the ground beneath the partially open door to prevent escaping paint/fumes. He has to be particularly careful, because our neighbor on that side of the house is a nosy busy body who hates us and is always trying to get us in trouble. (That's a story for OT, though.) Of course, this does have a detrimental effect on him personally. He passed out for a few minutes the other day from fume build-up in there. Whoops! You can check out the tight fit below too.
Anyway, by the end of the weekend, he'll have compounded it and replaced all the lights, and the hood badge, etc. Then it's decision-making time...

Well, the paint job is officially over. Despite all of Kevin's care to keep the fumes under wraps in the garage, that stinkin' neighbor still called the cops on him, who called the county fire marshal, who just arrived at our house about an hour ago and told Kevin it's illegal to paint a car in your garage.
Who knew? We thought it was only illegal to paint out of doors...
Thank goodness he had just gotten it finished before the marshal arrived. And it looks like mine won't be getting one after all. Unless he can figure out a way to do it in the basement...
Sigh...I really hate this neighbor sometimes.
