Thumbs up I just saved $1k...(replaced shocks - RV)

...Thanks to Tony Harkin's site. I just did the shocks myself and it cost me about $400 vs. the $1400 that the wrench wanted. It really was not that hard to do, just time consuming. I was pretty careful to mark all the components and how they were oriented to try to preserve the alignment. It seems to have worked, but time will tell.

The shocks that I took out were very old BOGEs, and they were blue with Porsche stickers on them. The new BOGEs are black. Does anybody know when BOGE switched from blue? I am curious if these may have been originals.

The new ride is a huge differnce! I never knew that it was supposed to ride like this.

Now on to the x-pipe from 928 specialists that came in right after I finished the shocks....

Good job on the shocks but as I understand it the alignment must be done afterwards. You"ll know if your tires start to wear but I'd be on the safe side and do the alignment. Nothing better than new shocks and a newly aligned ride.

Thanks for the feedback, Joe. My understanding was that it was necessary only if I messed with the balljoints or the ride height. I didn't touch the balljoints, and my careful marking was to preserve the ride height. You are probably right in that I should have it checked just because I messed with the suspension though...cheap insurance for pricey tires!

after switching to Geico and going for a suspension settling ride , about 30 to 50 miles you should check the ride height before you go to the alignment center, congrats on working on you ride, good luck with the new shocks

Bravo for going stock with Boges. It seems so many people on here have determined the stock suspension was too soft, when in actuality it was just worn out.
