928 Exclusive "Barn Find" Video
Feels like a barn find....

This car is a 1990 imported from Japan. All leather interior, factory wood trim in a Mappa color, special steering wheel. Body color wheels. As you can see it is really sun damaged. The wood finish is cracked up, the leather has pulled away. This is the first time I've seen a factory wood kit in this color.
Probably take a good 5 days to pull everything, recover dash, console and dye the interior, clean the carpets. Make it look respectable. It will need the rear speakers re-done I'm sure.
The burgundy 928S we pulled the engine and replaced a bad(chipped, not burnt) exhaust valve. Did the motor mounts and T-belt at the same time. That was a ton of work just for one exhaust valve! Total bill $3,100 USD including the parts.
The red 83S - This is the way to go for the subwoofers. We've done quite a few of these. You can keep the spare and they sound great.
Enjoy the video

I thought one of the experts would reply..but no such luck. Maybe to correct me however.
The wood trim was part of the exclusive options for '90 and upwards. As shown there is a circle clock, shifter surround, ashtray cover, door panels. You could also get a wood wheel, and shifter.
This car has an interior color for the seats and wheel that I've never seen. The carpet is linen. The dash, center console, door rests, rear quarters - all leather. I've seen more 80's cars in full leather but not so much in the 90's.
We (Garage9/Jager) CAD'd up a line-up of replica pieces to the factory kits. They are a excellentrepresentation, with superior durability at a fraction of the original cost.

The factory wood was available in two colors, but I've seen it faded and with cracked finish. It first came up around the mid-80ies. Porsche's manufacturer had some major problemls with the console inserts, as they had a tendency to warp - there were lots of rejects, which partially explains the high price.
Gary Knox and I compared his crackd, faded factory wood with a Jager kit in African Rosewood at the 928OC-IC in Wichita, Kansas, and Gary said he felt that the Jager wood was the nicer type of wood. Also, the Jager wood has a somewhat elastic polyurethane coating that won't crack or fade, and provides for some UV protection as well.
Gary has since refinished his factory wood and stained it in a more nahogany tone (wonder, if that was inspired by the African Rosewood I showed him). It came out very nice.

porsche offered various wood kits at different prices and qualities.
Some were really excellent but were never listed as seperate (high) price options and cost more than buying a small car for "her indoors".

That's a sweet 1990. the 1990 from Japan doesn't have the air bags. The cars in not so good shape(and there are plenty) can be imported for eye-popping low prices into Canada ($6-7K Cdn).
Here on the west coast the market is sort of flooded with 928's, and I saw a decent looking '90 for about 10K Canadian.

This particular 1990 was for sale last year for $18k.....it looks nice in pictures but is a touch rough in person.....the seats were really rough for a 40K mile 928.... I don't think the owner sold it......
