Another valet encounter

A few months back my wife and I went to Clydes @ Tyson's Corner, VA in the 928. The lot was full, and although I hate to valet anything, it looked like it was my only choice. As I got out of my car, and was ready to hand over the keys, the attendant pulled in front of the key booth and got out of an older 325.
The Risky Business scene unfolded in front of our eyes as the Beemer started to roll away (this guy forgot that it was a stick???).
It rolled down the sloped lot and smashed into a parked Grand Cherokee.
2 for 1.
I suggested that my wife go inside and meet up with the group while I opted to wait outside for a free non-valet spot, where I could park myself.
No valet at Clydes, thank you.

Unbelievable! I think I would have knelt down and said a prayer of thanks right there in the lot.
Which makes me wonder, what recourse the BMW owner (or any of us who hand the keys to the valet) have if the car is returned with damage...?
Great story!

There was a story here in the O.C. register about a valet who decided to take a guests Ferrari out for a spin at 2:00 a.m. He didn't even make it out of the parking lot at the Ritz, wrapped it around a pole when it went sideways. I would have loved to see the drivers "oh ****" look when he realized he was beyone the point of no return.
Another time in Phoenix at the Phoenician (sp)? we turned in some valets that were running a guys Porsche turbo up and down the closed back entrance late at night. It happens a lot!

We should see if John Speeke can come up with a valet mode we could program with the shark tuner. ZR1's have a valet mode, cuts the power down to around 200bhp. I'm actually suprised more cars do not come with this.
