No LSD or Worn LSD?
Checking the option codes on the sticker, it only shows C03 (California car) and nothing else. The transmission number on the sticker says: G2811-16G
The transmission number stamped on transmission is: G28/11 11G05399
When the back wheels are raised and the shifter is in gear (5-sp), the wheels will turn opposite of each another.
When shifted into neutral, one wheel will turn and the other doesn't.
This is what a non-lsd does, correct?
When doing burnouts from a stand still, both wheels will leave equal length marks.
When doing gentle burnouts in gravel, sometimes both wheels will leave marks and sometimes one wheel will leave a mark.
When driving on ice, both wheels will spin and the back end will be out from behind you before you know it.
What do you think?

My 81 does not have LSD - it will leave two black marks when doing a burnout. When both rear tires are receiving an equal load, this happens. If you spin a donut, only one wheel will be spinning.
I avoid gravel and ice with my car

Edit: The ice part was while driving slow in motion, not from a stand still. It was scary.

Well, yes and no.
I don't know exactly how a PSD diff reacts when its not pressurized, so I assumed it would act like an open differential. I didn't know that on open diff would leave twin stripes. It sounded like you had an open diff when the motor was off, but posi when the motor was on. I kind of assumed that's how PSD would work.
It was a joke in that someone would have to go through a lot of trouble to retrofit that to your car and that its highly unlikely.
Sorry, didn't mean to confuse things.

John, you do not have PSD(90 and up), based on the spin wheel test, you do not have LSD either. You have an 'open differential'. When in gear, spinning one raised wheel will cause the torque to transmit through the spider gears and send the other wheel going backwards. Out of gear, no movement. If an LSD setup, in gear, the wheel will be very hard to move, and out of gear, both rear wheels will spin the same direction(no transmit through the spiders).

Cool, thanks everyone! Reading through old posts gave me the idea that only one wheel would spin during a burnout w/ open and both would spin with lsd. The car won't do Bill Ball one-wheel burnouts no matter what; from a stand still nor while moving.
I've been trying to figure out what occasionally makes a "gear growl" noise in my transmission and thought it might be worn lsd clutches......, but if I have no lsd, then it can't be worn clutches. I checked the options code sticker, which got me thinking because there were no options listed other than C03 (for california car). I don't know what the options were for an 86', but it has a sunroof, all leather interior, heated seats, and no rub strips, but no option codes for these. From the descriptions on the forums here, the car acts like it has lsd, but the rear wheel test says different. That's why I thought it might be a worn lsd, but with no option codes listed for it.

John,
I'm not aying that it couldn't be a worn LSD , it still could be. I just wanted to point out that leaving twin stripes doesn't preclude you from having an open diff. I had an open diff and could leave twin stripes. If I had to bet, I would say it's more likely that you have an open diff than a worn LSD. The only way to tell for sure is to open up the case.

Mine also does not have LSD but will lay down two black stripes if pointing straight ahead. But, its only a one burner if turning into a corner, or doing donuts.

John,
I presume your talking about Redline "NS" versus regular 75w90 gear oil? If so, the 50/50 mix should be fine unless your having synchro issues, where the 100% NS may be helpful... it wasn't in my gearbox but you should have the newer & better Borg Warner synchro's in yours.
