Ken,
Sorry to hear that, but there's no reason you should feel you're letting anyone down. When all is said and done it's just a thing. If it's not bringing you more joy than pain, it's time to move on.
I'm a newbie here so I can't speak from experience, but I have a feeling you'll get another one...

The upside is that this will demonstrate to your wife that your priorities are family first...and, at this time in your life, this choice probably the best (although difficult). However, the trust you gain should help you buy points to buy another 928 when the time is right. You may not get the $$ out of it in this condition that you want since someone will have to incur costs to tow it, maybe import an engine, etc....and you may be limited to a Canadian market with border crossing issues, etc....but it's makiing a short term sacrifice for the greater good. You'll recover and be back. Good luck, my friend.

I'm in Canada (Nova Scotia) and am always on the hunt for parts (couldn't help but notice those nice 17' in the pics) to keep my 928 "in top form".
If this car is being parted out....I'm interested.

Thanks guys,
Hi Harvey,
Wife - Still have a long ways to gain the points for another 928, but at least she'll have me around more and not in the garage!
Hi 944S Boyee,
I'm going to hang onto the wheels for the future 928 for now, but thanks for offering to buy them from me. If I decide on letting them go, I will make sure to contact you.
I will sell the car whole as it is too good to be sold part by part. The car will have its original 16' inch wheels. I will post a for sale message later, and will ask for $6000.00 CAD or best offer. I honestly don't know if this is a reasonable price or not, but considering the insurance appraisal came to $20,000 CAD, minus the 13 to $15k CAD estimate I got from the repair shop, I thought this might be a good start.
Anyone following this thread who is interested in buying before I post, you can give me a shout at;

Hi Ken. I just logged onto this thread now and it appears that you've made the decision to sell it as is. But I still have to share my very familiar story with you (I'll apologize in advance for the length of this message).
My 928 was bought from a co-worker who has brought in a number of cars form Japan. He actually only bought the 928 because he knew I'd end up buying it off him. Anyways, shortly after arrival here in Saskatoon, it too suffered a TBF. He immediately contacted the auction house in Japan who located a replacement engine for him and arranged shipment here. While the auction house didn't cover the cost of the engine & shipping (about $3K CDN), they were able to find one and arrange for shipment quickly. Now the fun part... when the engine showed up here, it had a chunk missing from the oil pan and was generally in a state of dis-repair and obviously should have been headed to the salvage yard. Informed of this (along with some photos of the piece of crap engine) they found another motor and shipped it here all at their cost. My friend spent about $2K to get installed here in Saskatoon. So, what I'm saying at the end of this long rambling story is the total cost to fix the same problem you have was $5K. After he got the (so-called) good engine installed, then I bought the car from him.
The last laugh appears to be on me, though, as l immediately decided to get the TB/WP done as preventative maintenance (big $$$). My mechanic has been storing the car for me for most of this winter at the low, low cost of a head gasket job. So, all in all, I can certainly understand your decision, as I'll likely end up having $25K invested in this thing when all is done. But the good thing is that it's melting today and spring is just around the corner. When I'm cruising around in a few weeks, I'm sure it will all be worth it.

There was am S4 just sold on ebay with a siezed engine. I was keeping an eye on it but at the end, decided no to go for it. Here is the link http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...9089962&rd=1,1
I know you want to get $6000 for the car, but to get that will probalby have to part it. As a complete car, it could be difficult to sell it for that much.

Dan,
IMHO many of the Japanese imports have had odometers rolled back before unsuspecting Canadians snatched them up.
Check out this car and tell me this is a true 70,000kms car,

Hi guys,
$6,000 CAD is only an asking price, I didn't know where to start so did some simple calculations based on the appraisal amount minus the shop quote for a new(used) motor and r&r. I really appreciate the feedback though, many thanks! I have a few people interested in it, I will see where it goes from there. Any feedback, offers would be appreciated. I know I would make more selling parts off it but I don't have the time, space, and it's just too good a car take parts off of.
In regards to the roll back on the odometer, yes, I've heard of it being done. I will never know if it was done on my car. But Japan is a pretty small country (I grew up their), and even if it was rolled back, you rarely see a car with more than 150,000 km on it - we usually get rid of cars after 100,000km (scrapped or exported).
The interior/exterior condition of the car is very good to excellent with wear on the driver seat door side, which to me indicates that it was in fact frequently driven, but probably not a whole lot in terms of distance. Undercarriage shows almost now signs of rust.
But ultimately, I would really want the buyer to view the car in person, or at least have someone look at the car for them before selling it.
Thanks for your feedback guys!
