I don't ever consider a car an investment. A car as an investment means you have to take care of it for the next owner. I buy a car for my personal enjoyment. I clean it, drive it, and worship it with me in mind. Worrying about resale value just detracts from the whole experience.

 

99+% of cars are HORRIBLE "investments"........you are guaranteed to loose your butt....either through depreciation or repairs.....either way it costs big $$$ The nicer the car the more $$$$ it takes & everyone here wants a NICE CAR....so its $$$$ anyway you look at it.....

My 2006 Acura has excellent resale value....44% after 4 years...so it will be worth about $16K then....so I loose $20K over 4 years while driving a new car on warranty.... What will my then 110K mile 88 S4 be worth then??? Probably about the same as it is now......because 4 years worth of 928 beaters will be gone by then.....

I have hooked up with a few 944's 911;s and one 996 tonight and we had a great time on Memeorial Drive at K-ROGERS. My car being all the talk. After three doughnuts in the parking lot on the way out, very loud, oh yea's.

The best of the litter even with a 95" 911 cab. in immac. cond. Don't listen to other forums, they still like our cars for what they are and they are great classic's they are. We might be able to convert these friendly want to be's....

i have been watching for 2 years now. For a few months it seems they pull crazy money and then all of the sudden they pull nothing. I also think people are starting to get REAL tired of ebay. I think you are going to see car prices keep falling on ebay. To many bad cars on there.

I was talking to a used parts guy the other day (yes he is on this board) and he said he was having to pay crazy money for parts cars, specially OB units... so who knows. My main guy in PA that parts porsches ( the same guy that bought my 79 and 84) said he has paid more money for a lesser 84 parts car than what I paid for the one i sold him. One day its up, and another days its down

 

I'm loving my 1985 S 5sp for $4k. But it needs lots of stuff and it has a gadzillion miles. It won't take $30k to bring it up to speed but when I get done with it it'll probably be about $8k total (yes, I track these things). My 1980 Euro S is currently up to $3800 but that includes $380 of towing and impounding charges

 

I have 4,000,000 sports car smiles sitting in my garage/carport. My face is getting sore. I would like to turn a couple into cash, but they're like Chollo cactus spines...they get under your skin but seldom go away. The only way out is to sell at a price I'm uncomfortable with. I'd rather keep them and let my kids figure out what to do with them after I die. Stay tuned, you may get some real bargains!! You see them every day!

"A 1957 Chevy can be found for $2,500 and also for $250,000. " So true. As far as cars for investments, I know they are bad investments but I look at it this way. If I did not spend the money on cars I might spend it on something else like eating out more, vacations, electronics, boats, {strippers and alchohol},(LOL) etc, etc. At least with a good well kept 928 you might have something to show in 10 years.

I really like the 85s euro blue. Same color as my 81 with 90 more hp. That is the one I would like.

 

Over the past 12 years I have spent most of my discretionary cash on women, booze and my 928. The rest of my money...............I wasted.

 

The prices right now are stagnant if not dropping... It doesnt matter to me since I dont plan on EVER selling my Porkenized 86.5. I've fixed every little thing except the red "caution" light in the driver's side door and I'm proud of the work I and the BuckeyeLandSharks have done. Soooooo I now have approx $17K in a $12K car... LOL!!! But it was a blast getting her there Unfortunately, the PO had an accident and had to have a couple of fenders and one door painted (side swipe) so it will NEVER fetch top dollar even though its solid as a rock, runs like a bat outta hell & handles even better. Bought her with 41k miles and a year later she has 59K miles... Oh well, guess she'll be with me for a long time

 

On cars as investments...

Friend has his own business and has made it to the point that he has house, cars, kids college, etc. all paid for or money in the bank ear marked for it. Asked me what to start putting money into so if the economy crashes he will still have it. I told him to forget about the economy and all that stuff and invest the money in things he likes and enjoys then it will always have value.
