Going along Woodlands Parkway. No real clear room to floor it, but I think I could've come close to holding my own.
I followed him onto the highway, but after he pulled a couple of bonehead moves I decided it was not worth it - just too busy.
Boy does that car sound sweet (and looks awesome too!)
Anyone know the 0-60 and 1/4 mile specs on that car?

I think the F430 has almost 500hp...493 I think.....O-60 & 1/4 mile varies quite a bit due to if the special Ferrari launch mode is used......but generally its a high 3 low 4 second 0-60 with 1/4 mile times around high 11's low 12's.....about the same as the C6 Z06....

Yea, I think you may have the toying backwards. He could toast you to a golden brown befiore the car responded from your foot being mashed to the floor...and thats considering your SC.

F430
Weight 3197 lbs
Engine 4.3 liter V8 Transmission
Aspiration Natural
Torque 343 lb-ft @ 5250 rpm
HP 490 hp @ 8500 rpm HP/Weight
6.5 lbs per hp HP/Liter
114 hp per liter 1/4 mile
0-62 mph 4 seconds
Top Speed 196 mph
I got to run with a Lamborgini Gallardo the other day and gained about a foot on him all throughout third gear.
The x-pipe must have been brutal right in his ear... he had the top off.
It is just awesome to see the look on their face when they get passed by a 15 year old car...

I guess I should have said "played" with each other - as I said I think I was close to holding my own - but I think he would have beaten me

The 430 is near ENZO stats. You may have a fast 928, but I don't think you would be able to compete. Then again the driver has alot to do with the equation. 487 horses & 0-60 in 3.6 or 7! Crazy stuff. The magezines call the F430 the best car in the world!
But I still love the 928's!!

UUUUUH - arn't most of these Murph cars making around 400/400 AT THE WHEELS??
That's got to be at least 100 ft/lbs more than the pasta fazool.
You guys are selling yourselves short.
The fastest car I have ever messed with was a modified AMG - because of the HUUGE torque. The C6 ZO6 that I left 2 busses behind was NOTHING compared to it.

ST,
Some of us are making just a bit more, and would run quite well the the F430.

I stopped posting any type of these stories after my last one was edited without any explanation. I will say that a F360 has been shown taillights from 0-100 though.

I really think that the 0-60 times and 1/4 mile times of all the manufacturers are some sort of hypothetical values that have little to do with street performance. I got to compare my car witha new BMW M6 recently and he was no contest by a long shot from 0-60 or at higher speed.
That car is listed a 4sec 0-60. I don't think my car is under 4 seconds 0-60, so these published specs must be off.

Sounds fun. Would love to have an encounter like that. The 430 is one of the most beatiful Ferraris ever made. And I would trade my 928 for one in a hear beat (but then I'd proabbly sell it and but a whole buch of really nice cars!)

Either way I have to agree, there are lots of drivers who think because the magazine says they are ranked at a certain level of performance that the car automatically imparts the ability onto the driver.
As you pull up beside them on the freeway they smash the gas pedal and think they are going to win by default...meanwhile I've already got my engine spinning high up in the sweet spot and when I take it up above 5000rpm the 5psi boost is just enough to allow me to show them my 19 year old tail lights...

That's how I got the better of an M5 in 2005. 5-6psi of non-intercooled boost was enough to pull on him. Even got a thumbs up from at the end of the off ramp (we both got off the highway at the same exit).

Then on SMG equipped cars there's 'launch control' (and it's wimpy cousin 'acceleration assist' on US spec cars) that manages the engine and shifting to maximize acceleration. To make it work you have to select the right mode on the SMG, push the shifter all the way forward, push the throttle to the floor, and then pull the shifter back. If you don't do everything just right it doesn't work. Sounds like a feature made for magazine test runs.
Personally I'd rather have an Audi S6. Check out these impressions from Autoweek:
