Keith,
How wide is the space 'tween the 2 buttons on the Ack bar.
And which model Ipod do you have. Get where I'm going.
Them Ipod videos are might slim and may slide tween the buttons if it's wide enough. Think my old Ipod Mini will fit in that space.

Not staring at the Ack bar in front of me so I'm trying to visualize it's size.

You could always delete the rear a/c controls in a way that leaves them available to return if and when needed. Maybe just a remote switch somewhere to run it occasionally to keep the o-rings lubed.

Keith, the V1 remote display will not fit - at lease I couldn't see a way to do it. mine's in the AC vent with DR's AFR and boost gages.

Yea Andrew, I saw yours, nice idea, but not for my application. Not even going to ask how you wired and where you drilled They must take some serious heat and cold throughout the year!

As for the IPOD in the Ack-bar...won't work. It will fit (width and thickness), but would look strange and besides, you would have to lose a key part of the circuit board to make it work.

Keith:

what are you planning to use for the iPod interface.
I have the Pioneer CD-IB100 and I would strongly suggest you borrow one and try it before you commit. The interface sucks big time.

Pioneer's new interface is a lot better but it may only work on their latest models ie: AVIC-D1
There are other interfaces available that will plug into your Pioneer and offer much better navigation.

My PDA GPS Ipaq got cooked going down to Frenzy a few years back. I had major vacuum leak and copious heat poured onto the vent mounted Ipaq. Leather case didn't help and the unit shut down after a few hours. Had to cool unit down and put some tinfoil behind the Ipaq like NASA insulation.
Them center vents can put out some good heat.

Been musing whether I should upgrade my Blaupunkt and use their Ipod interface. Wonder what their head unit will display. Song/artist info? Scrolled across head unit screen?

Paul C. You got any pictures of the Pioneer Ipod interface readout?
Just curious.

I don't, but with my unit, there isn't much to see. I don't have the title of the songs or artists. Just a few buttons to scroll through up or down.

I have the latest and greatest...except for the fact that the AVIC-D3 is now coming out....not a big difference I am told. The IPOD interface is the CD-IB100II. Full use of IPOD on screen with shuffle and search as well! I don't really care anyway because you can just make playlists on the IPOD and hit play and just listen. Any song thats on the IPOD is because I like it. The availability to make playlists is good enough for me really. The only thing I don't have...which I plan to once they release it, is the CD-IB100II which will communicate VIDEO from the IPOD

Andrew, thanks for the relay info.

Keith--

I was in the console today doing the vacuum diaphragms, and took another long look at adding the power outlets forward on the sides so they are accessible there. I have the junk trays so it makes sense to have them there so the phone cord can just get stuffed forward. Don't know what space you have with the airbags.

I already have a permanent power cord for the radar detector snaked up around the front (towards the windshield is front...) of the pod. Goes on and off with ignition, tapped from the radio power and fused 1A.

What about moving the rear a/c controls to the back ..e.g. the front edge of the rear air vent cover..still reachable if needed..and rear passengers can control...as they are likely the only ones who would ever use them anyway...not that any one ever carries passengers back there haha...

Since it is not used very much..would still appear stock..and get them away from the front console.

Just another totally random though...what about mounting all the stuff in the console totally horizontal..and stepping down to the next one. Hard to describe..but imagine a set of stairs starting at the ashtray..and stepping up..with each step being a control.....ie. rear ac..then next step up..radio..next step.(short one) the a/c button (!) controls)...then the temp sliders and on...but can be modified any way you want?...

Later,
Tom

I like this idea. Very simple and probably the easiest to execute (assuming there's room underneath for the pots). Just run some wires back there, drill a couple holes and presto chango...

Yep! I think moving the rear AC controls to the back might be the best idea.

You guys are certainly onto something (or just plain on something ) Boy, shivers run up and down my spine thinking of drilling into nice german leather in a GTS. I would of course have to investigate if the pots could even fit there to begin with. I would have to take out the rear seats and panels JUST to disconnect the cover for a look/see...not the easiest or quickest of things. Funny enough, Jennifer had mentioned this as an idea yesterday. I will certainly look into it as it should be a good location, if not, they are going on the P brake box.

Bob, the newer cars have the lower dash changed quite radically. The driver side has a lower padded dash and the air bag on the passenger side has caused the glove box to disappear from the dash itself and be located lower covered by the carpeting. Power points on the side console panels would work, but give you no place to hold or store anything being charged. besides, it wouldn't look optimum even with a black plug covering them. My V1 is going to get hard wired in from the hood liner right above the rearview mirror. The V1 is peripheral enough to see past or around most all blockage, so mounting it below the sunroof motor is a good spot....but I am not going to do that myself. Being that most everything is going to be hard wired, I would expect the occasional cell phone would need the power point. I will most likely conceal this under the flip top cover where the IPOD station will go. BTW, got any extra actuators that are normally NOT extended?

Tom, I know exactly what you are saying on the step up component look. I would expect it would look fine in some applications, but you have to admit, not for the 928. I really don't think I will have an issue with the angle, but thanks for the idea.
