Default For Sale: My '93 GTS

I am officially offering my '93 A/T GTS for sale. Why, you ask?

1. I have decided to reduce my work load in the fairly near future. I'll be going from 48-50 hrs a week to 33. This will mean a moderate reduction of income and the need to simplify life a little. I'm still making payments on the shark, and at this point in my life, time is more important than toys.

2. I really want to get back into some serious songwriting. Recording high-quality demos in the studio can be spendy. Some of the proceeds from the sale will be used for that purpose.

I will use multiple posts to make this offer so I can be very comprehensive without making a single marathon post.

I bought the car with 67+K miles on it 3.25 years ago. It now has about 79.6K miles.

It passed UT safety and emissions just last month.

It is guards red with a cashmere/black interior. VIN is WP0AA2921PS815064

Asking price is $36,000. (USD)

OK. First the BAD!

1. I bought the car knowing it had been in a wreck with the PO. I am the second owner. (Carfax lists three owners, but owner #2 only had the car for three months and put just 200 miles on it before it was sold at auction. So I am guessing he was actually an auto broker.) I have tried to contact the original owner (in Trenton, NJ) but have not been successful. I tried to Google his name and came up with an obituary!

So, I have no other knowledge or details about the wreck except what Carfax and NADAGuide Autocheck have provided. They both list just one previous wreck. Carfax states, "No Severe Accidents Reported to DMV." The car has a normal title - it is NOT a salvage title. There is no detectable chassis damage, and the car aligns to spec.

2. The paint job is a classic "ten-footer." From 10 feet, it looks gorgeous. Up close, it ranks as perhaps an "8" out of "10." The hood has a few tiny frog-eyes; you can see a faint blend mark if you look closely; there are a few typical stone chips; and on the lowest, underneath part of the right rear bumper the paint is scratched as though the car was once transported improperly.

So, if you want a pristine, showroom car... you'll need a new paint job. You could make it a "9" out of "10" by re-painting the hood and rear bumper.

Next post will be the GOOD! Then pics.

Now for the GOOD!

Other than what I mentioned above, this car has no issues. None!

The buyer will be the beneficiary of the fact that I have now officially spent as much money restoring the car as I paid to buy it!

Since I purchased it 3 years ago, the following has been done:

New timing belt, tensioners, and WP. The TB has been re-tensioned at appropriate intervals.

In fact, ALL engine compartment V-belts were replaced.

New A/C compressor and clutch. New rear A/C unit installed. All A/C lines have been refurbished with all new O-rings and valves.

New hood struts.

New motor mounts. (Ford)

New thermostat. A coolant leak was also fixed. The car has no leaks of any kind.

New power steering fluid, new brake fluid, all new coolant, new refrigerant, and new tranny fluid.

New brakes, rotors, and master cylinder.

New Mille Miglia wheels with painted Porsche crests. Wheels have been properly aligned.

New Bridgestone Potenza tires. Fronts are 225/45 R17. Rears are 275/40 R17. The fronts have ~ 60% of tread left. The rears are newer and have ~75% of tread left. With wheel spacers and wider tires, the wheel arches are filled very nicely!

New Bosch spark plugs and Magnacor red wires.

New distributor caps and rotors.

New door stops.

New rear hatch release.

The flex plate has been checked and any pre-load released yearly.

Oil and filter has been changed yearly. It runs Mobile 1 - 15W/50.

New aero mirrors.

Transmission has been rebuilt by a Mercedes tranny specialist.

Torque tube rebuilt

All (yes, ALL!) fuses and relays have been replaced.

New Bilstein shocks all around.

CV axles have been rebuilt. New rear wheel bearings.

New 30# injectors, RRFPR and Bosch ignition coils. The car has been dyno-tuned with these in place. I had these installed when I was considering a S/C.

New GTS air intake tubes.

Motorsport SLC (Dave Lomas) X-pipe with their new cats. I have the dyno sheet showing +26 hp and +30 ft lbs.

New MAF

New Blaupunkt radio/CD player with a new rear mid-bass speaker.

Brand new supple leather on the front seats. Rear seats are perfect as is.

All new sliverknit carpet throughout. New floor mats.

All new dash lamp bulbs (35 of 'em! Who knew?)

New battery last month.

And many more minor fixes/improvements.

Everything works on this car.

The sunroof works. All wipers work. The remote rear hatch release works. The cruise control works. All dash gauges work. All interior lights work. All headlights and taillights work. The little light under the hood works! The headlight washers work. The seats work. The clock works. The alarm system and locks work. I have the original tool kit, spare, and air pump.

The car starts easily. You can stand outside the car, reach through the window, turn the key, and the car will jump to life with no coaxing.

With its wide stance, it truly handles like it's on rails. It drives flawlessly.

I have all records of the work done since I bought it, and also the records from the PO I received when I bought it. It also comes with the Carfax and NADAGuides vehicle history reports - all included in an attractive, matching guards red binder.

Dave Lomas and Garrity Repta have done virtually all the work on the car for the past 3 years. Dave has graciously agreed to serve as a reference if anyone wants to contact him (Ketchmi here on Rennlist).

Pics to follow.

You'll notice it has the rub strip delete option.

And also the highly desireable dash/pod crack delete option!

Chuck -

Thank you for the very kind offer. Tell you what...

I'd rather give my friends here on Rennlist first shot for a week or two - cuz then I'd know it was going to a good home. If no one has bought it by then, I'll get back to you.

Thanks again.

Say it ain't so, Bigs! Between you and Dennis Wilson announcing his farewell, this has not been a good day in the 928 Forum.

Here's wishing you the best, and hope you can come back soon.

I don't really plan to leave Rennlist. I am rather addicted to this place. So I'll continue to poke my nose in here and on OT.

Couple more BTW items.

The car just had its yearly Pap smear visit at Motorsport last week. Oil and filter were changed. Flex plate was checked and tension released (less than a mm. of movement Dave tells me). New battery. All new wiper blades. All new coolant. Transmission fluid and filter. Timing belt checked. All new dash and pod lamp bulbs. New air filter. New fuel filter. Pretty much routine maintenance.

The vast majority of all the major work was done in the first two years of my ownership. In calendar year 2006, the only expense was its yearly Pap smear similar to the items above.

And before I give the car to a buyer, it will be detailed and have a full tank of gas.
