I need to say, this thread has been very instructive. Many people here have confronted similar situations. I already decided to be positive about this, but I'm still very heartened to see how many of you have taken advantage of this opportunity with such great results. Congratulations. For people from the boomer generation this is not generally very easy, as the mindset towards a stable job as defining who you are was still very strong in our culture when we were growing up and getting laid-off was stigmatized.

From another member of the boomer generation and also having been laid off a couple of times I can only wish you a hearty congratulations and the best of luck. It is difficult for us to understand this mindset (like you're saying above) but you obviously already know how to roll with the punches.

As a small suggestion you might want to not forget to schedule a "Bit O' Bill" time; just for you to gather yourself and get ready for the next great adventure on your plate (whatever it may be).

And my suggestion for what to do? Road Trip! When was the last time you really took a thousands-plus mile trip in the 928? Not to damage your humbleness but you really are one of the "Rock Stars" around this forum and I'm absolutely positive you could make if all the way across the country and back with plenty of offers for board and accommodations and people just wanting to tweak your expertise on all things 928. And, yes, I'm sure there'd be a contingent from Austin/Houston if you were to land in D/FW for a couple of days. And if we can buy MK a new engine surely we can all contribute to an "honorarium" to make it [relatively] worth your while.

Hell, call it the Bit O' Bill Tour. LOTS of r'listers would be thrilled to meet you.

Just an idea; take care and think big.

Better sign up soon, only 24 spots left. Should be a good event, not too many cars on track at once. Bring the S4, and see how the SC does on the track.

DonS - Great suggestions. I am going to try to take a load of time off rather than jump back into the workaday world.

Rich - I'm going one way or another. Thunderhill is a good track for the S4. I'll sign up.

I was washing the car today, taking more time doing it than usual, when my son walked up the driveway back from school and said, "Enjoying your "fun"employment, Dad?" Har, har. Yes, I am.

Nice CBX. Those things are bringing crazy money, the nice ones anyway.

I suppose you would rather not hear about the '82 I have on the way (CBX) with 450 miles from new?

Hang in there Bill. We boomers are a strong lot that can handle any situation. You've proven yourself in the commercial world, go have some fun for awhile. I agree with the other guys, your are a "Rock Star" in our world. I bet you could be a pied piper and bring the west coast cars to SITM. It would be great to see you in person. I know you have saved my butt trying to figure out how to fix my car. Relax, have a few beers I have no doubt you will land on your feet and do well. Your best days are in front of you!

Bill
Congrats on your new "job"......it will be far more enjoyable than the old one, bummer is it doesn't really pay all that much :>(

Since I work graveyards I have lots of time just about every afternoon + weekends.....so let me know when you tackle a 928 project......track or S/C either way I'll help out! I did get a couple new detailing polishes that work really well......I'm gonna order a new buffer sometime this week....hopefully it will smooth out our rock hard paint!

Bill,

Congratulations. I am happy for you.

I left my job about 6 weeks ago. It was tough to get my head around leaving a six figure income. But I knew it was the right thing to do. Working 24x7 and always on the road takes a toll on oneself and on one's family. I feel alive again and have time for FFF. Family, Friends and Fun.

I am happy for you and believe that things will work out just fine for you.

Best regards and enjoy!

Well congratulations Bill. That company must in real trouble to start laying off valuable talent like you.

*excuse my while I quickly open up e-trade to short that stock*

Let us know when you're going to be working on the track car. Despite my mechanical retardation, I'd really like to help in whatever way I can.
