I opened and closed the sunroof last night. seemed to work ok, but there was some noise;
tried it today, nothing.
get some clicking sound when I depress the close button. thought I got some motor noise for awhile when depressing the open. now nothing.
could I have blown a fuse? bad motor?
tried spraying some electrical contact spray, probably won't do anything, but I'll wait a while and see.
if it doesn't, what the troubleshooting procedure?

Rick,
Was your car on or off? If it was off then the battery may be low. Mine goes a lot slower with the engine off than on.
After that, do a search, there was a thread just last week about this that I just revived this am.

well I've diagnosed my problem with the sunroof. Turns out it's a contact problem with the switch and button. when I press the middle of the sunroof open button, nothing happens. When I press the right edge, nothing happens. But if I put my finger on the left back edge of the button very close to the right edge of the drivers window button, and give it a firm push, presto. The motor goes on and the sunroof opens. What do you think? More electric contact cleaner squirted on that side of the button?

truth be told, it's not much of a sunroof, more like a horizontal roof vent. but it was bothering me that I couldn't get it working

Rick,
Good piece of diagnostics. I think you can get at the back of those switches, I know they can be replaced, so you might be able to get some contact cleaner in there from the back with more success.
Glad it's not in the motor itself. Check the thread from last week about cleaning the tracks and adjusting the sunroof. I'll bet you a dollar you find at least one loose screw in there. Also for some reason over time the lube that was used turns into glue. It gest VERY thick.

I would open up the switch, carefully, as there are contacts and bits and pieces. Check to see if the contact posts are corroded (they would look almost burnt black). Check the shape of the post to see if they are worn with an angled top face. If this is what you see, buy a new sunroof switch. Try swapping switches with a working window switch.
My guess is you will need to replace the switch. I futzed with old switches for too long, tweaking... and it wasn't worth it. Buy new switches.
I know what you are talking about the lithium grease turning to glue. I replaced my sunroof cables and a light coat of lithium grease. My sunroof works great now.

today I'm going to give some attention to the seats, soap water murphy soap to try to see the cracking status underneath the disclosed parts of the cracks.
then I guess it goes back to the daughter for errand she's making up so she can drive the car.

I was able to repair my window and sunroof switches. I do not remember the specifics but it was not poor electrical contact - it was mechanical. The plastic was hitting before the electrical contact was made. I filed some plastic down and they have been fine since (many years ago). I never replace something without first taking it apart - half the time it is something simple.
