Default I broke it!! Now what? (Trans cooler)

Damn it!! I knew I shouldn't do it but I did anyway. I turned the trans cooler line nuts without counterholding. I snapped the little one off of the front. Now I need a new trans cooler . Those nuts are on tight, I can't budge either one, so I said let's see what happens if I .... Sh***t it broke. Anyone have any suggestions on how I should get the big one off of the back of the rad? I was counterholding that one, but, I can't budge it. I can turn the whole thing out of the rad (both the nut and the threaded nipple that goes into the rad it'self.) Any advice would be great, I need to get the lines rebuilt... so I need to get them off. Thanks in advance, Greg

Try the usual lubes...........if they dont work try heat; caution with open flame on lube.

Get the proper size wrenches and a 'helper'. Sometimes a 'tap' breaks the seal.

When you first get the wrenches on there try going the opposie direction ie tighten.

Just enough effort to break that bond then spin them off loose direction............they are RH thread?

I assume they are RH thread. I tried going in the opposite direction, I will try again after the lube sits a while, maybe I can get a helper too.

Mine were monster tight but if I remember correctly there are no RH thread. I just used two very large wrenches.

RH treads are "normal" clockwise treads. You must have ment left hand tread. Those are usually used in rotating assemblies.

My cooler lines were on really tight too. They are tough to get off the first time.

When you're working on something that needs counterholding like that, try lining up the two wrenches so you just squeeze like pliers to loosen -- the pic below shows this method on a tie rod end, but you get the idea. I can generate more torque this way than by holding a wrench in each hand - YMMV.

Heinrich, what do you want 4 it? I have a line on one with the ac condenser attached, but if I can get yours faster I might take yours. I tried the "squeeze it like pliers idea" but no luck, I will try later today when I get home, hopefully the liquid wrench works.

Ceedee... Those are pics from the PO in Florida. I need to post a pic of my own, I just haven't got around to it yet. Your Avitar is better anyway.

How about this: Align the two wrenches just like SharkSkin has it on the picture, then use a small vise (you can probalby buy one for a few $$$) to squeez the two wrenches together. This should generate enough force to either break the nut loose or break the wrench. Maybe even a strong C-clamp might work too.

Has anyone just removed the nipple that the nut is attached to, and take the whole hose , nut, and nipple out at once? (the one in the Rad), and then separated them off of the car then put the nipple back in the rad. The end result would be the same, I can do that, much easier.

You can, but you run the risk of cracking the side tank when you apply torque there. Good luck!

I have already gotten the to turn, that is why I am considering it. Are the side tanks made of Plastic or metal?
