Man, you've got a long trek from Down Under, wait, didn't you say yesterday you are in the middle east right now?? You are a world traveler for sure. Is your shark stateside?

The roads immediately around the hotel in Banner Elk are not too much, but if you want lots of hills, mountains & curves, there is more than enough of those roads all around the area. Problem may be more of you dealing with the cars on those roads. Within the National Park I would think there would be some areas you could bike on, besides the offroad scene.

Hi Mel, thanks for the info.

No, not so far as from Down Under thank goodness.
Me, bike and Nissan Patrol in Dubai for the 'forseeable'.
928 S4 in very safe hands in Australia (thanks RB).
Am hiring a cheap car on arrival at Charlotte before SITM, to use for the duration and to get around for a few days after SITM sightseeing (never spent any time in US before). Think I'll bring my bike just in case!!
Am I looking forward to this? Am I what!!!

Any other keen cyclists attending also contemplating bringing their bike?
I contemplate this every year.

Beech Mountain is with in riding distance of the Best Western. This is the mountain where Armstrong put his stamp on the last TourDuPont. My bike is ready to go. If i make there this year, i'm bringing a bike. With 39x27 gears!

Can anyone join? I'm coming down from NJ early on Friday, probably hitting DC late morning.

Anyone else driving down from the Northeast that wants to meet up?

Does anyone have a reservation at the SmokeTree Lodge in Banner Elk? I stayed there at my last SITM and it was very nice.
I'm traveling to SITM '07 by myself and looking for a 928 buddy to set up room with. Any body in a similar situation?

BTW, I'm pretty rowdy, so....

I'm heading down solo. I may have missed getting a room. Rowdy is nothing. I reserve 2x a year to get completely hammered. SITM is one of them.

John,
That works for me.... I'll get hammered too.
Well, SmokeTree is timeshare. So it's too far out for availabilty (Clerk siad check back in April or so). But I really liked it because they have a kitchenette and a seperate bedroom. Call me crazy but I like to cook on vacation. Plus there is a good breaky joint down 105. So should we wing it on reservation?
We could meet on the BRP near Charlottesville VA, or Richmond. I'm thinking an early afternoon leave, Friday.
Let me know what you think. Take it easy.

I keep thinking about my last trip to SITM 4 years back...
On the trip there, we ran directly over a deer carcass on the Ohio Turnpike. I can't believe there was so little damage.... broke a couple front air inlet uprights.
But man, did it STINK! I had carnage hanging from my headers. Hit 2 power wash stations b4 arriving in Banner Elk. No such luck.
I was SO embarrassed pulling in to Gfather Mtn. Everyone could smell it. It wasn't so bad when the car was off. My car was nicknamed "Carnage", but fortunately, got the name "Chewy" on the way home. Smelled for weeks after, though...

Getting ready to do a TB/WP and hopefully have a first belt tension check before SITM. Will anyone have a KEMPF tool to check tension at SITM again?
