Nicole's "Y" Connector will help avoid cutting wrist

As is common on many 928s, the one I just bought had a badly broken "Y" hose connector under the passenger's side fender. Only problem was that all three nipples were broken off and firmly stuck. In the process of using a small screwdriver with the tip bent into an "L" to retract the broken pieces , the screw driver slipped and I put a 2" slit on my wrist. There's still one tip firmly embedded in the hose and before I get it out I may slit the other wrist (on pupose).
At any rate, Nichole's stainless steel "Y' will be the LAST Y connector I'll ever have to replace on this car...and there's no way this will break or detriorate. Add the frustration factor, cost of the band-aid and scar, and no need to ever do this again, her $21 or so cost for this part is a bargain.

Hmmm...When was my last tetnus shot?

Squeeze the hose with pliers over the embedded broken-off end to crack the plastic into pieces. Then it will just fall out of the hose.

Harvey,
Brought back too many memories. I've replaced that X#*! plastic "Y" in 3 cars, and may have a fourth one ('89 5 spd) before I'm done. I was delighted to find that Porsche changed the vacuum connections on my '94 GTS. Now 3 connections to the cannister, and NO "Y". I also gouged my arm in the process of extracting the broken stubs in one of the cars. I don't recall it was as bad as yours appears, however (but then, my memory ain't all that great anymore). Anyway - lack of a Y is a fairly good reason to buy a GTS (at least a '94!!!).
Cheers and go Vandals.

Harvey,
The "round rings" are meant to support the hose to the alternator. It's a real challenge to get them installed, with the hose in place, etc. etc. I've seen some where the hose was wire tied to a bracket in the fender well - avoid headlight etc. If you don't have the hose, find one!! It also has the temp sensor for outside air temp in it.

You seem to be missing the air intake hose for the alternator. On the end there is a loop of hose held by that bracket. The wire you have there is the outside temperature thermistor for the climate control. It usually is inserted into a metal section that is part of of the alternator air intake hose, just before the final end loop.

I like Bills' approach to the matter, but if that doesn't work for you, you can thread a lag bolt into the open end and pull it out that way thus avoiding doing a Harv...

I'm a slow learner w/lots of scars. I got another cut last week that should have had a few stitches but I just used superglue at hand and bandaided it tight and it's coming along but it's ugly...but I'm not longer catching women so it doesn't matter. They use superglue at the hospitals I'm told.
