Default Mobil 1 synthetic 15w-50 $4.74 qt

FYI...I picked up two 5 qt jugs at walmart yesterday...$23.62 a piece. 10qts for $47.24... 4.74 a qt is a pretty good deal.

FWIW it's the 5W40 that Doug Hillary recommends.

Only seen 0-30W M1 at Wallymart.
They did have the price sticker for 15-50W M1 but no stock late last year at one WMart I sampled.
M1 used to be $4-5/qt. couple years back.

$50-$60 a year for oil isn't that bad tho.

Ernest (NYC) Did see Shell Delvac at local AutoParts store.

Tony - that's a pretty good daily price, although I've been getting it for $4.09/qt @ Target... actually, they have clearance periodically and last week I picked up all 12qts on the shelf for $2.98/qt !!

I refuse to shop at Walmart, unless I need a product that's not available anywhere else. Happens about once every few years...

Great, you save $4 over Amzoil, and if you track your car and get temps in the 260f range, look what has happened to many 928'ers. What does an engine rebuild cost??
Amzoil, cheap insurance!(or Redline, or even Kendal racing oil changed more often)
I think if you are not racing or DEing, mobil 1 is probably fine on a 928.

No one has shown me why ive seen lower hot oil pressures with mobil 1 vs other high end oils.
at buttonwillow, the hot oil pressure got so low using mobil 1, that the oil pressure light was coming on!

We have it up there in the 5 qt. jugs. Right now it's on sale (at least here) for about $22.50 a jug. I need to get 7 of them for my two cars.

most all of the 928 failures has had Mobil 1 in common.
Doug gave us good information regarding the stability and viscosity of Mobil 1 and reviewed my 3 to 4 race weekend old Amzoil racing oil after it came back from analysis. However, never was the oil viscosity at racing temps discussed.

What i have found is that there was a big difference at 250F temps in the oil pressure my old 928 had. in fact, even Constantine's 928 was seeing lower than 3-4 bar pressure in the last race.

Ive never seen less than 5 bar with amzoil or redline racing 20-50.

Ive also pulled apart my old 4.7 after 170,000miles, 40k of mostly racing and the rod bearings looked excelent.

of all the snake oil and mystery things to buy to help protect your engine, i think engine oil is the easiest to hedge your bets with, and we do have some imperical tests that have shown that some oils just fall down as far as pressure, at racing temps.

I thought porsche recommends 20-50 for our 928s (at certain operating temps)

Still on street tires so consider myself fairly safe but....

I need to find a source of Amsoil or Redline out here in Charlotte.

Mark, you scare me.
