From what I could find the DEVEK radiators were originally epoxied until sometime around 2000/2001. Epoxy will eventually fail. DEVEK did offer me a replacement for 15% off even though it was the PO who put it on. I went with a used Behr that I got from Gary Knox two years ago and it works great.

Mine went just after 2 years. Guess it's the uneven roads around NYC.
Was the welded end cap one. Looks real nice and shiny in the box.
Shoulda just left it in the box.

Went with used Behr from 928 Intl. Upstanding vendors.
Got 2 reseal kits (for both sides) and rad shop resealed the used Behr.
Now that I know better (from Rennlist wisdom), I should have swapped in 2 fresh end tanks as well.

Live and learn.
Anyone with the C&R 928 Intl rad report on how's it holding out?

Ernest (NYC) aka Keptun Kewlant.

I've got the 928 Intl unit.
Cool as a cucumber. No issues. Led a tour last year over the mountains, I think we were in the high 90's, maybe even triple digit heat. Uphill, full throttle where traffic would allow. Two of the guys red lighted, I think a couple others hit the red zone. My car was just below the top white line. It's a good unit. I got in prep for the Stroker build, I don't think I'll be disappointed.

Mine was put in by the PO in 2001 with a 20% discount from Devek. Both caps are welded, I keeping my fingers crossed.

Not many shops will do it... I've run into that a couple of times trying to get aluminum radiators repaired for my motorcycles.

G&L here in town will, I can confirm they pulled out a miracle on my current YZF's aluminum rad. They make a lot of custom rads and aftercoolers for high power imports too... for around 250 bucks...

Wonder what they'd make a 928 radiator for? I'm lucky in that I got a new Behr with the car.

I'm not completely certain that that is true Randy. Some leak from the glued part, but some just leak from the tube. My research is that the metal used on these is a different alloy from what Porsche/Behr originally used, and as such it is very susceptible to corrosion damage.

I think this largely explains why some people have good luck with these and some people do not.

THOSE of you with intact Ron Davis Racing/Devek radiators...get yourself out into the garage tonight or tomorrow or at your first availability and unless you have done it within the past year....CHANGE YOUR COOLANT! And make sure you keep the concentration of coolant at least 50%. Fresh anti-corrosion additives are necessary to keep this part alive.

I'm not sure what all Gary Knox sells but he's as honest as the day is long and he has my endorsement.

The BEHR in my 78’ Shark just sprung a leak today too. It’s a small pin hole about midway up between the two cooler lines on the driver’s side of the side cap that faces the engine. It doesn’t seem to be leaking along any seal – but the actual housing of the cap itself.

Bret,
You can replace the end cap once.
Get a cap and seal from 928 Int and find a local shop that can change out the caps.
About $120 for the cap and seal and about $100 to fit it.

Rog-

Why are the caps replaceable only once? I bought two end caps and seals and took it to radiator shop 928intl referred - they placed new tabs on it. $125 for labor BTW in a shop located in Santa Ana I recall.

Just curious.

Because the tabs break off after more than one change.
Or you were incredibly lucky.

Default New tabs

I dont want to beat this to death but what I was mentioning is they placed new tabs as part of the replacement of end caps and seals.

maybe I'm wrong, maybe not, just want everyone to know the options available. I can call the rad shop tomorrow to confirm.
