Upgraded from 17" to 16" Club Sports
Having looked at Garth's CS wheel avatar for too long I started the search and thanks to another lister, Greg Gray, I found a set of original 8" & 9" Club Sport wheels. Previously I had 17" Boxster rims on it; the handling was very poor, almost dangerous with the narrow 205 fronts on wrong offsets. The car was unstable at high speeds despite adjusting ride height (trying both upper and lower limits) and alignment.
With the new CS rims I decided to go with Michelin 245 tires front & rear and the car is transformed with superb handling - rock solid at any speed in straights as well as bends. I also think it gives my desert cruiser an awesome and more "time correct" look.
I settled for ride height adjusted to the lower end of the spec, as on the picture, and currently I await new front CS springs.

What can I say ... looks great! They have a 'glow' all their own when the original anodizing is in that superb condition.
The 8" fronts always gave an improved sense of tracking compared to others tried - but I never thought of going to 245's on the front - that could be next ..
edit: Hey K,
No one added any pics - hate to see your car left all alone ... , for there are others in the CS club ...

Kolbjörn they look great
I always lowed these wheels and got a set in the garage without rubber on.
They are unfortunately not in as good shape as yours.
I still think about having them powder coated or reanodised.

I've always liked the CS wheels.... it's too bad that they were never made in 17", even worse is the fact that the performance tire options in 16" seem to be dwindling.

For a neophye like me, how do you distinguish between the forged and the cast CS/D90 wheels? I have a documented record for buying faked wheels.

Kolbjorn/Garth:
Where did y'all get the center caps? Does someone make painted-crest center caps that are anodized?
I got my CS wheels re-anodized but they didn't do the center caps, which are in good shape, but obviously not as nice as the wheels are- see below.
The PET is confusing me. It lists 4 center caps, as follows:
#1: 477 601 051 D, for light platinum dish wheel, up to '89
#2: 928 361 031 00 for silver dish wheel, up to '89
#3: 928 361 032 01, for the snow tire wheels, and
#4: 928 362 032 02, for the D90 wheels (I have a brand-new factory set of these, they're painted to match the factory D90 finish)
Now, the PET lists the color of CS wheels as 'silver' Does this mean that the #2 center caps listed above also have the anodized finish?

Harvey,
The base of the CS spokes are flush with the outer rim.
D-90's are not. The D-90 spokes are set in a bit from the outer rim, giving the D-90 a ridge around the circumference.
