I used a bank draft when I purchased the 81. The bank clerk printed the draft right there and the money was removed from my account that minute.
When the PO and I did the transaction at the DMV - the clerk called the telephone number on the bank draft and verified the draft was good before completing the transaction. This surprised me at the time but I think this is a good practice.

I can't speak first hand, but I have had extensive conversations with Marcus and he had sent me several links to this guy. There were blogs on him left by many. He changes his name often and does not have a trackable address as he lives with women he cons or lives in guest houses. The guy is a TOP NOTCH scam artist. Yes, he is THAT good.
I am glad he never burnt 928 International, but neither did Eric Munck as far as I know and look at his well known reputation. Both are con men.
My understanding is that the police want this guy bad, but they are just never able to catch him with a "smoking gun". He has done a low budget porno movie (like any are high budget) and has scammed so many people in so many ways. I had read a lot of the blogs about this guy and he has a history that goes back many many years...yes, he has done time in the past. He goes by a few alias'..D Kelly Marsalis, Maverick Marsalis, David Marsalis just to name a few and there are variations of spelling in the last name.
BEWARE, if this guy says he won the lottery, make him pay with cash. DO NOT ALLOW him to wire to your bank account. He will take this info and screw you for more than your car! Make him send you cold hard cash....and make sure THAT is not counterfeit. He's lying...plain and simple.
Let us know what happens!

I had heard he had a couple of "pimp my ride" 928's so it probably was Randy. I also found that he has some muscle cars he has conned people out of. He comes by and test drives the cars leaving a license (fake) or some other kind of usless thing, goes for a test drive and never comes back. TECHNICALLY, you gave him the keys, so he really didn't steal it..did he? Thats been the problem with this guy...he knows the legal system...and he comes off as the nicest guy in the world...just like ERIC MUNCK!

Something's missing here. If a guy goes around test-driving cars, and takes them, it is theft whether you "gave" him the keys or not. The cops could arrest him for that. If this were legal, I'm going straight down to my local Porsche dealer and tell them I want to try a new 911 out. I won't take it back, cuz I'll say they gave me the keys. How much of this is urban legend, and what is the rest of the story?
I never heard of this guy before, and I'm not saying he's not a scammer. It's just that for such a big crook, he seems to be hiding in plain sight, being so bold as to come to car gatherings, and seems to have police in fear of arresting him.

Ed, this is no lie, If he can't be caught red handed with the property, then there is no proof. In a private transaction, it is ones word against the others. A dealer is a completely different story....otherwise, this guy would have done that already.
You guys can give the thunmbs up all you want on this 'dude" and say he's such a nice guy and he never ripped me off...... HE's A THIEF! He rips people off and will do it to you if he gets the chance.

I encountered a similar experience many many years ago....
I was a poor struggling college student. My VW Rabbit needed some engine work done. An acquaintance at a gas station offered to help me to fix it for a small fee. I gave the keys of the car to him for a few days. The few days turned out to be a few weeks. Never heard from the guy.
I called the guy's home. Wife mentioned that the guy is a crack addict struggling to rehabilitate himself. He had just been fired from his job at the gas station and had not been home for a few days. He appeared to be driving my car around town scoping for dope.
Long story short, I called the cops to report a theft. Cops met with me, but would not allow me to press criminal charges. They indicated this was a civil matter because I had given my keys to him. They say that I can sue him in the civil court to get the car back, but they would not define it as a criminal case (either for the lack of evidence or the nature of the circumstances).
