Default Best Sealant For WP and Oilpan Gasket is?

I have seen many different products as I have searched threads.
What can I pick up at an autoparts store that will work the best for the waterpump gasket and what works best on the cork oilpan gasket?

TIA

Bernie

I've always put the pumps in dry: for pan gaskets, I used the thin cork/neoprene composite gasket - also installed dry.
Still anxiously awaiting my first leak ..... yawn ...

I used high-temp Permatex RTV "gasket maker". I think there are a number of products, the key is even application, and don't lay down a real thick bead.

Is this the gray sealer?
I have a tube of what is called MotoSeal 1 by Permatex which I believe is Permatex's version of Yamabond if I am not mistaken?

Cheers

As you know, that's the way the factory did it and I can't see a problem with that if you've got fresh, smooth surfaces, even though DEVEK and other 928 shops encourage Yamabond. I haven't had any problems with Yamabond (or equivalent). I thought it might make the oil pan gasket more likely to squeeze out (Yamabond stays semi-liquid), but mine (original cork style) has been fine for the 3 years since I installed it. My presumption is that shops use Yamabond because it covers them if there happens to be a defect in the sealing surfaces, or, say, a small fleck of old gasket they may not have noticed.

Bern: Any of the non-hardening Yamabond equivalents work fine for the WP. I've used Yamabond, Hondabond, Threebond and Hylomar at various times. Hylomar is the best looking - beautiful, deep translucent blue.

I use permatex copper spray-a-gasket. All of the RTV sealants are kind of messy and as some have said, require the user to apply them evenly, use the correct amount, etc. I just spray the stuff on the gasket and let it set up for a few minutes and install. It has decent adhesive properties which is nice as it holds the gasket in place while you install the part. Removal can be a pain but that's why they make gasket remover as well.

Yamabond cleans up with brake cleaner.

Gasket remover: a tip from experience - I tried Wurth gasket remover one time and it nearly burned my skin off while working no better than Permatex. You could probably take a bath in Permatex's gasket remover.
