Possibly seller saw his no reserve auction going for less than they wanted, or just accepted an offer outside of ebay.
Hoohaw around the first auction poisoned the well for this car is what I think. Talking to the body shop guy fixing my dent today he knew exactly what I was talking about as soon as I said Zermatt paint.

It's probably just exactly what it says: mistake in listing. Who in their right mind would list a 928 with an opening bid of $100 and no reserve. He probably meant at least $1000

er more like $10k. cause selling the car for $100 or $1000 doesn't make much sense.

A super low opening bid w/out a reserve is a common way to gather interest in a desireable item. Maybe this wasn't as desireable as he originaly thought it was. I'm sure the thread that was here on the list didn't help much. I know when I bought my first 928 I scoured the list for some time before deciding on one to buy. If I had seen that thread I would have been a wary buyer. Its sort of a shame. I looked at his description and pictures and he did show the paint damage clearly. His description was a bit rosy but thats what most sellers do anyway. Oh well.

OK, I will make a further comment re what Fabio said. Comments toasting the car or roasting it, help a buyer spot the good and the bad. There is no such thing as bad advertising, anyone looking at it after the thread here would be a better (but not totally informed) buyer. The car has a subjective value, I certainly wouldn't take his word for what it might be. BUT IT IS NOT "GORGEOUS." Especially now that he screwed up the listing, I do not for a second think he purposely was generating attention, although he did do that. I know that stopping an auction early does not eliminate the fees. I bet the owner is pissed, two runs no points. Spring is coming! Maybe Todd will get better pictures and have a legit auction by April.

First auction with a reserve ended short of it at about $24k. Bids were up to about $19k with a day to go I think when this was ended.
I'd say the recent high dollar sales by Willhoit drew lurking GTS owners out of the woodwork, but now three weak examples are dragging the market back down.

Just an opinion not a proclamation, but every sale puts another data point in the pool of information available to buyers. How many buyers research the condition of every car sold, compared to checking the main points like year and mileage when judging current market values?
