Dangnabit#@$%#& - $3 part stops project
Brake job finished, almost, %$^#&*@
Calipers painted, new rotors and pads installed, but on the last wheel, new pad sensor cracks (faulty part).....forking A! $3 part stops me cold.
Anyone have a suggestion how I can get one of these in the next couple of days, maybe locally?
(I doubt if the local Porsche dealer has it, they don't seem to stock anything, they did not even have a lug nut or touch up paint for the 993 in stock).
Or do I have to call 928 International in NC and pay $20 to get a $3-$5 part sent 2 day mail. (I will order a full set, to be ready, just in case).

Bob,
I just put mine back together so I could drive it. It won't take more than 20 minutes to put the new one in when you get it, and in the meantime you can drive it with the warning light on.

Ha Ha....Danglerb's nasty evil brother Dangnabit.......
I know, I can put it together, but bad weather forecast for next few days anyways....I was just living Murphy's law "if anything can go wrong, it will"!
I wonder if I can pick up one (or a set) of these locally?

thats funny Keith, thats exactly what I thought too
About the brake light. Is this the light that illuminated on digital dash cars on start up and goes away once you hit the brake pedal once? I have that light and replaced the front pads but havent gotten around to installing the rear pads I bought. I would have thought when the pads are worn, and the sensor trips and grounds to the rotor that it would trigger a warning in the screen and say "brakes" or something?

As and interim measure glue it back together with super glue. I have done this and it works fine, as ususally they fracture around the back of the recess where it slides into the brake pad steel section and the wall thickness of the insert is quite thin. I have not had them fracture on the side which sits inside the pad (the thicker side that wares.

Dave,
In my owners manual it says that the stop lamp indicator will always come on until the brake pedal is depressed. It will only stay on if there is a bulb out for the brakes. I had no clue about this. I honestly dont remember having to hit the brake before to get the light to go out, but as er my manual this is all completely normal.
Considering i didnt know how this worked, i went through the manual and found a few other things i had no idea about. Such as the fact that the defrost button can be turned as well as just tapped. I also finally found out how to reset the average fuel mileage and the average speed numbers. I had just thought they had to be reset by a new battery or something cause the "zero" button which resets mileage and the timer, did nothing for the mileage and speed averages. I found out you have to pull the control stalk for 3 seconds to reset that. FINALLY!

Rod,
Really? I would have thought it would be the reverse. Once the wire wears a bit it goes bare and rubs on the disk.
I was going to try a few things to see if it would clear, now I guess I don't have to. Clearly I need the new wear sensors, (found one of the rears disco-ed, front went bad), but I'd like to put the light out so that if (when?) it comes on for something else I'll notice it.

The sensor did break on the thin part where it slides into the brake pad, very thin, very fragile.
I'll try to get one (a couple) from 928 Specialists mailed here this week. If not I may do the "tie it together" fix and get the car back on the ground for now.

Throw it away and check your own brakes. OR call 928 Specialists in NC. They can overnight to you, they do all the time. Here on the West-coast, 928 International are the schizznitt who will ship parts seemingly by supercharged mail rabbit to get them to you same-day. Just pay the few extra bux and stop the whinin' .... that'll be the day that a 3-dollar part will stop my re-assembly of a car. You can always add the sensors later, no biggie.
