Default No speedometer after 5-speed update?

I just transferred a '91GT 5-speed trans. to my '84 928. Having lost the magnetic pick-ups in the rear of the old trans. i need to figure out the best way to make my speedo work again! I ran an unsuccessful search, and any help would be greatly appreciated! I know that the speed sensor on the later cars ran through the ABS sensor, but, i am not sure how to do this! Has anyone done this!

Are you sure about that last statement?

Yes, from 90 or 91 on the ABS pickup is used rather than a sensor in the transaxle. It will have many more pulses per revolution than your original sensor. You might be better off gluing 6 magnets to your cv joint and mounting a reed switch to sense the magnets...

I bet you 10 bucks (in monopoly money) that the speedoemeter wheel that usually goes on the LSD unit would fit on the LSD unit in the 91 trans you have. That would of course require some...disassembly, so Dave's idea may be better.

Which means mine sounded outlandish and idiotic. I get how this works.
