GTS question - vapor recovery 'Y' connector

Yesterday I decided to replace the "infamous" plastic Y that is in the passenger front fenders of the later cars (S4's at least) with a stainless one I have - but this was on a '94 GTS. When I got the fender liner out, I discovered there was no "Y" there? Anyone else who has investigated this area? Do you know whether the "Y" vacuum connector was moved and is now located somewhere else, or is the system redesigned and the "Y" eliminated? THANKS for any counsel.

Gary,
My very knowlegeable wrench tells me there isn't one anymore on a GTS - not sure what they did instead.. changed the canister plumbing? anyway I have been in there also and there is indeed no sign of one in the usual position...

As Borland says - PET shows one through 95.

Does it have the "Do It Yourself" manual transmission, or the superior "Fully Equipped by Porsche" Automatic Transmission?

Thanks Alan (and Roger for your e-mail reply) and Borland as well. I'll try to get a picture posted for all to see. I believe that Alan is correct, in that they did some significant re-plumbing, at least by '94. And this is one thing that I believe it is good "To Fix" even if it ain't broke. Losing vacuum when the plastic one breaks/splits is not a good thing!!!
Cheers, and THANKS again.

Sorry about the delay in getting a picture - I've had the flu for the past few days and haven't ventured out into the "hobby" garage to raise the car and take a picture. Anyway, hopefully I can get one attached to this posting. I certainly couldn't find a "Y", and it appears the vacuum goes directly to the cannister in this '94 GTS. Others may vary!!!
THANKS again for your inputs. The file for the picture is:

It's been a while since I was in there, the tube that went to the Y came out of the rear side of the canister, but I think the Y-connector was actually located underneath the canister, so it certainly looks like they changed things around, but it could be lurking somewhere farther to the rear in the well.

your GTS:
Looks like the "Y" is behind the canister. Comparing with Tony's picture, you have the same number of lines (3) penetrating the engine bay. Only thing is, the canister on your car has the outlet on the opposite end as the inlet, as compared with Tony's that has inlet and outlet on the same end. I seem to recall on my 90', seeing an additional capped off outlet where yours is showing a plastic hose.
Tony's 87' (piece 5 is the "Y" connector):

Borland et al,
I've found that there is no "Y" on a '94 GTS, serial number 0156. Others may vary!!
I pulled the cannister off and there is no connection behind it either. When I look at the two pictures (Tony's and mine), it is now clear that the earlier cannisters only had two nipples for connections - at the rear. The one on my GTS has three nipples - two at the rear and one at the front. Therefore, Porsche must finally have realized that the plastic Y was not durable, and rather than re-invent another one, they simply put another connection for "luft" on the front of the cannister.
Interestingly, the cannister part numbers for the S4's and for the GTS's are the same in PET, and on 928 Specialist's web site. It appears they just didn't catch the change for PET. Not the only time that has happened with either PET or the Workshop Manual!!
THANKS again for all your counsel.

Interesting. Next task is to find out when change was done. Its even possible after production ended in case your car has had part changed some time in past. Same basic cannister can be also used in other models. Some changes in them might explain why you GTS and possibly others received different type in production line or later.

Erkka,
There is no indication of any damage, etc. in the fender well area where it is mounted, and there are no records of any cannister changes in the car - after 1997 (when it had ~15K miles on it). I have all service records after that date when it was being serviced by a very high quality independent shop in Houston, but none from the first 2+ years while it was being serviced by the original Porsche dealer there.
Obviously I have no idea when the change would have been made. I'm pretty sure the '91's had the "Y". Does someone with a '93 want to pull the liner to see???

I need to pull mine some time in near future and do complete cleanup there. I'm also pretty sure no one has been there since it was put together. This should give one more data point.
